I didn't find any posts on this and I'm very curious...

How long do tours on the ship typically last when you're an officer in the CG?  My recruiter said that I would do a tour sometime in my career, but didn't say for how long, and now he'll be out of town for the next week!

I've also heard that when you're an officer they move you around a lot.  Is there any truth to that?

Any help anyone can offer is greatly appreciated. smilewinkgrin

You'r tour will be as long as the ship is out. Depending on the size of the cutter and it's patrol area, you could be gone a few days, a few weeks, and even multiple months at a time.

I think he means how long are Officers assigned to a ship. Tour lengths for Officers are spelled out in chapter 4.A.5.a of CIM 1000.6A, Personnel Manual. It takes a while to download so I will quote the portion I think is relevant:
    PERSMAN said...
    1. Afloat (CONUS AND OCONUS): Two or three years as follows.

Two-year tours Cutters; USN Exchange; SDQ Western Hemisphere
Group; UNITAS; CWO WPB CO; CWO MPA; and
all other CWOs assigned to WAGB, WHEC, WIX,
    WLM XO, WTGB, and WMECs.

    Three-year tours LEDET OICs, WLB CO; WTGB CO; WIX CO;
WMEC EO; WAGB AEO; CWO EO; and all other
CWOs assigned to GLIB, WLB, WLM, WLI, AND
    WLIC CO.

I know zippy when it comes to boat life because we have never been stationed on a boat. However, I can tell you that my ex'es tours were average in time. The only one that was shorter was New Orleans. We were only there for 18 months. But Valdez was 4+ years, HQ was just under 4 years, his tour in Anchorage was a little over 3 and he has been in Juneau 4 years already (back to back tours) and looking to transfer summer 2009 if there is an appropriate billet for his rank and position.

Officers don't necessarily move every other week... But there is a thing called "needs of the service" and it means you get to stay in one place for 10 years either.

Eat, drink & be merry for tomorrow you may be in Kodiak.  One of my personal favorites.

How long would tours for enlisted ranks last, specifically AST's? Do job rate or place of duty play a role of how long tours are?

The force is with you, young Skywalker, but you are not a Jedi yet. Enlisted tour lengths are in section 4.A.5.b.

    Chouvener,
Aviation tour lengths are four years in general for officer and enlisted no matter what your rating is.
