I have a double end Grumman 17' canoe with a carrying capacity of 750 pounds. I attach side floats to a center bracket which screws/clamps onto the gunwales. These side floats extend out about two feet and the height of them is adjustable. The floats are about 8" in diameter and 24" long. They do a good job of preventing the canoe from tipping to either side. I easily stand in the canoe, and often fish while sitting on the bow. My question is, does this count as added flotation to the canoe, which might increase the recommended/legal carrying capacity of the canoe? I live in NY State.

This is a question for local authorities, not the USCG.
You can meet the standard, or you can set the standard. It's your choice.
