Can anyone tell me how to go about getting my Master's license upgraded from 50 tons to 100. It seems that everyone that pops out of Sea School gets 100 to begin with. I understand that mine was 50 because of the "most recent" experience, which was on smaller vessels.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. firstname.lastname@example.org

I don't believe anyone who comes out of any school is given a 100 ton as the minimum just because. Your sea time, just like their's, has to be evaluated to determine your tonnage and scope. The NMC website has the requirements listed on the website and is pretty cut and dry. If your time, tonnage, and capacity served is right at the edge of the crossover between 50 and 100 ton you can probably go ahead and apply for 100 ton.

Read up in 46 CFR Part 11 . 424 or there abouts. It deals with getting a tonnage increase based on 90 days sea time on a vessel within the 25 to 50 ton increment or 180 days within the 0 to 50 ton increment..
Document your time and submit an application for tonnage increase..

Nine year old post, good info but highly doubt the person will be back for an update on this info. Probably already has the situation resolved and figured it out.
