Got the call last night! Our cadet will be reporting to CGC Legare upon graduation and commissioning. He was hoping for any of the 270s in Portsmouth, VA, so he is really happy. His brother was on the Forward as a non-rate until last spring, and his fiance is on the Tampa, so he has some info coming already. He also got a chance to meet the CO last night as well. (Not violation of OPSEC. They streamed Billet Night live last night (???), but we didn't watch because he asked us not to.)

By the way, letting people know where someone is stationed isn't a matter of OPSEC. It is fine to let people know where our Coasties are stationed. It is only a violation if you say the ship leaves port on, going to, will be stopping in X Y Z ports, returning on... Those are violations.

I don't know if it is a violation but I would also delete a post if someone asked Hey does anyone know where Johnny Jones is stationed? and someone answered with oh sure, he is on the Legare and his email is johnny.jones@uscg Nope. That won't fly. But saying our children, spouses, siblings, whatever received orders to ________ completely ok.

The live stream was new this year. It has always been closed to all but graduating cadets, faculty, some Alumni (who organize it), and many COs. There is (and always has been) a lot of anxiety leading up to Billet Night. There can be a lot of joy, but also pain. And who wants that unhappy face beamed out to the world? Who wants their cadet reports seeing them get a billet they didn't want for whatever reason. (And yes, there are no bad billets, only opportunities).
