    Hello,

    I will be taking the asvab soon and am still a bit confused about the scoring. Is the afqt the only part of the asvab that the coast guard uses? I am looking to join the reserves either BM or ME and when I look at minimum scores, neither rate uses any other subtests besides the ones used to calculate the afqt. Does it then benefit me more to spend more time studying on those four subtests than the others? Or is there something I'm missing here?

    First, you need at least a 36 AFQT to join the USCG with a waiver, 45 and up don't require a waiver. Second, the qualifying ASVAB composite score required for BM and ME is a 100 GT (VE + AR).
