Well after over two years I have finally had the pleasure of getting reservations for both A school and DEPOT.
I started talking with a recruiter in June 2013 and began the process of joining the USCG Reserves. It took until Feb 2014 to get into MEPS due to shoulder surgery I had in 2010. Nailed the ASVAP and got medically cleared so I thought I was finally going to get to proceed but unfortunately due to the need at the time reserve jobs were far and few between and my amazing recruiter told me I should hold out for a job a want due to my high ASVAB scores instead of taking anything to get in. Well as another year passed by and I surely annoyed my recruiters with calls checking on any open billets, May came and a MST position finally opened near me. SWEET I thought but then there was the fact that I was DEPOT eligible and wanted to take that route if possible. So another waiting game... FY16 DEPOT dates to be set.
I am a little nervous now that my training date is quickly approaching especially as a 30+ yr old female attending DEPOT but I can not wait to finally be able to call myself a member of the best of the best, a United States Coast Guardsman!

Congratulations on finally getting there after such a long wait.

2 weeks from today I will be waking up in Cape May. I think the nerves are starting to get a little frazzled. I have been focusing as much as possible in fine tuning my required knowledge but my wife just had to have surgery Friday so everything has been a little extra crazy. Just can't wait to get there; sooner I arrive the sooner I will be graduating as a Coast Guardsman.

The nerves and the waiting can just kill you. But all will be just fine. I hope your wife is ok and the surgery was something minor. Keep studying, keep training and before you know it, the time will pass. Tell your wife if she wants to join the forum, we'll happily answer questions for her as well. She might be nervous too and we can help. Also tell her, the days will drag by but the weeks will fly. Luckily it is DEPOT so there are a lot less weeks.
