I am looking into and hoping to join the reserves through the DEPOT program. I'm 36, married, three kids, grew up an Army brat. I've got a BA and hoping to become a BM in the Chicago area.

    Appreciate the forum and info

Greetings..since you're in Chicago (Go White Sox!), there's either STA Calumet Harbor or STA Wilmette Harbor. Know that unless you have a skill set that the CG needs, you won't be going to DEPOT, but regualr boot camp instead (Eight weeks vs. three weeks), followed by BM "A" School.  FYI, I responded to your post in the Reserve sub forum re: BAH

    Thanks CPORJM

So then would I be considered entering through DEPOT still even if I did 8 weeks? I'm looking to get in on the basis of education. I discussed it briefly with a recruiter but he didn't expound on it. I doubt I've currently got the skill set to help gain entry as a BM. Would you know what skill sets are generally needed as far as a BM goes?

    Thanks

Yeah the White Sox have been struggling this year but that's my team - could never roll with the Cubbies

Looking at the enlistment programs (and I'm not a recruiter), it seems that you'd qualify for the Direct Entry Education Program, which is also three weeks. That requires 60+ semester hours and between the ages of 27-40. Once you complete that, you'd go to BM "A" School. One thing that this is all contingent upon is that there are Reserve vacancies for BM's in the Chicago area. Look here for a map of units in your area. http://www.uscg.mil/d9/sectlakemich.../units.asp

Thanks - yeah I talked to a recruiter for a few minutes on the phone and currently there were not any BM spots here but seems like they pop up here and there
