Hi Everyone! Brief background, my day job is supporting fire and law enforcement for all things related to technology and I'm a part-time Fire Fighter for a cross staffed Engine Company and Rescue. My side of the family is either Navy or Marines and my wife's side of the family is either Army or Air Force. Needless to say, there is a ton of bantering within our family but all in good fun. Within the last six years, my cousins encouraged me to apply for the Navy Reserves. I applied for Direct Commissioning three time (yeah), went through MEPs, board interviews, etc but wasn't selected. Intel/CS/SWO billets at the time had two....maybe six positions per year and thousands are applying across the nation and it's competitive. I eventually aged out of the process and here I am. It is what it is but I don't regret trying. The Fire Dept doesn't entirely fulfill that itch so I stumbled upon auxiliaries for the Coast Guard and the Air Force. I submitted an application a few weeks ago so let's see what happens. I understand it's a non-law/military unit of the Coast Guard and it doesn't pay but neither does Fire. I never did it for the money. I did it to fulfill the itch, expand my mental capacity, physical capacity, and to do what is right. I hope to meet many of you during this journey but until then be safe out there.

I loved my time in the Coast Guard Auxiliary before I went Active Duty. You can volunteer as much or as little time as you want and can get involved in some pretty cool things. My Auxiliary flotilla was heavily involved in boating safety classes, river patrols and helping the local cutter. Since I've been active duty I've seen how involved the Auxiliary can be, we had one Auxiliarist come on a 3 month Pacific patrol and cook for us.

I dont know much about the Civil Air Patrol but they are a very big group and work closely with Active Duty Air force personnel as well.

Good luck and thank you for your commitment!
