There is a Coastie missing.  He went hiking on Barometer and hasn't been seen since 10 am Saturday.

Hang in there they'll find you!
Take what you like and leave the rest behind.

They found FN Russell.  Fair winds and following seas to a Coastie lost far too young.

My prayers go out to his family.

But hiking barometer alone, in winter, after a snowstorm? This could have been prevented if he had just realized what a dumb idea it was. Looks like more mandated training is coming for the rest of us...

So sad...prayers for his family, and for those who spent their Christmas searching, to bring his family peace.

Please...don't hike, ride, dive or surf alone. Remember what you do affects those who love you too.
Heart breaking for another mom, just now.....

Nick, normally you give excellent advice and are a good resource on this forum. Something I appreciate. However, now is neither the time nor the place to discuss what FN Russell' faults were. He was an experienced winter climber having hiked many mountains in Maine winters, where he grew up. It also appears that he had at least some ice climbing type of equipment to have a snow ax with him. If the only thing that comes out of his death is training and proper notification and better guidance as far as cold weather survival techniques, well that is a good thing. It should not be lamented because it wasn't your mother that got a call on Christmas morning saying "We found your childs body." There will be a time and a place to debate these things, this is not that time or place.

Please feel free to leave any condolences but let's leave debating out of this. I agree with KD, remember to hug those you love just a little tighter. Remember to tell your friends they truly do matter to you.

Very sad story, but glad that at least his family is able to get some closure.
