Maybe I'm wrong, and chances are I am, but this article seems to forget what the Coast Guard does in times of war. A lot of the hypotheticals are all acts of war (unless navies often throw mines and missiles at each other in peace time), and in that event wouldn't the CG fall under the command of the Navy? The part of our ships battling other navies in the arctic is also pretty silly because our ice breakers are not battleships. Nor would the enemies battleships be ice breakers.

But, I have no experience in anything the article mentioned, just a civilians point of view/ observation.

You are correct that the polar star and Healy are not battle ships, but I couldn't speak for other countries. Russia, China, the Koreas, Japan, Sweden ect even Canada has more icebreakers than us, ive seen one of Russia's, it was a rust bucket, but who knows about the others
Take what you like and leave the rest behind.
