So I am asking this question on behalf of my boyfriend...  He has been in the Coast Guard for a little over a year now and has decided that he probably wants to go MK (he did a lot of back and forth between what to do but has decided this is what he would like to do with his Coast Guard career).  He is currently working on his BTM Qualification.  However, after this qualification and while his name is on the list for A School, he would like to get qualifications in order to help him in MK A School.  I believe he was thinking of doing the Engineering Qualification at his station in the meantime.  Do any MKs out there recommend this and think it would help?  Or have other advice?  He has a somewhat tough time memorizing information quickly and wants to go into A School with as many advantages as possible.  Thanks everybody!  Also, many thanks for your service.  Since dating somebody in the military I've really come to appreciate all the freedom we are granted.  Thank you all for giving your time to protect us and keeping us safe.
Keep Calm and Love a Coastie!

When I finished A-School he could go to a cutter or a land unit which are two very different environments for MK's. And any qualifications or knowledge he learns now may not help him much at different type of unit. But with that being said knowledge is power and getting as many equals as he can and learning as much as possible is never a bad thing.
