    Hello,

I am thinking of joining the CG as a YN and just would like some information.  I am currently an E5, but am told that I would have to join as an E3....anyone out there who made this jump?

Also, is there anyone that can talk with me about the duties of a Yeoman?

    Thanks!!

I recently enlisted a prior AF guy. He was an E-4 (security forces). He has been in the CG for 8 months now, and he absolutely loves it. You will have to drop down to E-3 if you qualify to join, but it won't take too long to get back to E-5. You should be able to get back there in a couple years. A Yeoman is basically our personnel specialists. They take care of pay issues, members' personnel files, travel orders, good order and discipline issues, retirements, discharges, etc. They tend to have their hands in a little bit of everything. They mainly work in office settings, although there are a handful of them underway on ships. Yeoman are typically at larger units, and generally don't serve at small boat stations. Most Yeoman that I know like their job quite a bit.
You can meet the standard, or you can set the standard. It's your choice.
