I am currently in the Air Force Reserves, E4 as an Inflight Refueling boom operator. I refuel planes inflight. I am looking to become a pilot and need to know if prior military flight experience as well as a private pilots license helps with the process. I am working on my degree from Embry-Riddle and will have it complete in a year and a half. What can I do right now to make myself more competitive? Also, why are there so many applicants and so few spots for officers in the CG? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Our retention rate is around 95% right now. Less people getting out means less people coming in.

You would need the bachelors to apply for OCS. You will not be able to apply directly to flight school. If selected for OCS, if you are extremely lucky, there may be a flight school opportunity if you earn a high rank in your OCS class. If not, you would go to the fleet and have a chance to apply later, but only for a limited time.
You can meet the standard, or you can set the standard. It's your choice.
