so, if you've been in another branch before and join the Coast Guard at a particular rank, are your years in service on the pay chart your Coast Guard years in service or do you also count your prior service years?

My uneducated guess would be it includes prior service years. Prior service counts towards retirement so I would think it would count towards base pay! Let's see what the pros say when they chime in, but that is my honest gut feeling & opinion! :)

Yes. Include your prior service years. Those chart are for miiltary service not just CG service. Also, if you were National Guard or Reserve, the time only includes active duty time. So for a non deployed year in the NG you would generally have two days a month and two weeks a year which would only be a little over a month of active duty time that could be applied.

Life is hard. It's even harder when you're stupid.
