I know, I know, we never call back, and we are impossible to get a hold of right? While it does seem that way there is a very logical explanation. Coast Guard recruiters are spread very thin compared to our DOD Counterparts. Many offices cover multiple states with only 2 or three recruiter’s total! To give you an example, my prior office in Columbia SC was responsible for 32 counties to include everything west of I-95 and part of eastern GA! (Look on a map). That is over 130 high Schools, quite a few colleges and a huge working area. My office had three recruiters total, and one worked the Ft Jackson MEPS 2-3 days a week and processed not only all of our applicants, but 3 other recruiters applicants from Charleston SC as well! Add family emergencies, training days, medical, dental, travel time, vacation (when we can) and you can see that we are literally running in every direction. Add 200-300 phone calls a month on average from people interested and you start to get the picture! Rest assured, we have not forgotten about you, and will get back to you as soon as possible.
