So I wanted to be in a position in cyber security when I graduate college. I am 16 years old right now, about to be 17 in October and I really want to figure out what I want to do in my life. I thought being in the CG would be a good way to experience a whole different life and do something for the country I grew up in. I still want to get a bachelors in some sort of science major, but what is offered when in the CG. I could have this whole thing messed up, so if I am messing this whole thing up, please respond and help me if you can.

I congratulate you are planning. A person doesn't need a degree to enter the cyber security world. Cyber warfare is real and we need people to fight this war. I recommend that you start studying for the ASVAB because you will need to score high to get an IT position in the USCG. If you want to go to school while on active duty then its possible during your off time. Sometimes its not easy but its doable. There are tuition assistance programs available to help pay for your BS.

Have you considered the Coast Guard Academy? I am not sure if they offer a major in cyber security; however, there is a cyber specialty path that officers can take. Check out the website:

So a quick follow up... The Coast Guard Academy does have a Cyber Major; the class that is reporting this fall (class of 2022) will be the first one to have this major as an option.
College, Online or Traditional.
