I hated this part the most. Knowing your fate has been decided while a small handful of people already know (panel members) and there is nothing you can do about it. Somewhere out there is a piece of paper that may or may not have your name on it awaiting the DHS sec to sign it.

Yes, good luck to all that applied. I was selected primary for OCS, but I spoke with my recruiter and if I become a primary on this panel I might be able to switch. We'll see!

When did the board actually convene? When do the first notifications typically go out?

Board convened on September 16th, our fait has already decided. It should be a few more weeks until we find out. Generally, you will get a phone call from your recruiter a week before the official list comes out. If I had to guess, expect news by first or second week of October at the soonest.

I'm pretty sure it convened on the 15 or 16 of Sept.  I'm guessing the unofficial notifications will go out in the next couple of weeks.

Good Luck to all who applied!

Anybody put in for the DCA board?

What air frame do you both fly currently? Are you looking to stay on the current type (IE: Rotary or Fixed) or make a switch?

I was told that the LTJG selection board was released, therefore the DCO board results should be soon. Expect the results by this week or next week at the latest.

a CR is a continuing resolution.  coast guard is basically in one ever fall because we never have an approved budget.  were given a fixed budget for a specific period of time (couple weeks, month, etc).

CR= continuing resolution.  basically no approved budget to operate, so here's a fixed amount of money to spend for a set period.

I was being facetious about flying a desk. Hopefully I get picked up and fly for the CG, hopefully the results come out soon.

I’m getting anxious about the results.

@apachest3ve, I'm ready to find out as well. Suspense is killing me. Trying to make a switch from the Navy. Did get an email from DOD movers saying I had separation orders cut and to schedule a separation move. It is weird because I put in a contigent letter of resignation, and shouldn't have gotten orders unless the results are out. Could just be Navy sucking at paperwork, as is the DOD standard.

I'm not too worried about a gap. I should be able to ORDMOD the separation orders to match my CG commissioning date. I did dig into my profile and find that I had in fact been issued orders. I'm betting it's because it's 9 months from my requested date (Navy's obscure standard), and not because they found out the board results. That would require different departments to actually TALK to one another....

I was picked up as #1 alt from the APR panel, same program. There's definitely still hope. I got the call about 3 months after the official message was released.

I was #5 alternate on the April DCE list and have not gotten the call; BUT I did update my memo and added that for the September panel and it must have worked because I am now on the primary DCE list. I decided to place that in my September memo because of advice listed throughout this forum to do just that. Every panel has different members and look at your package with "fresh" eyes so they do not know your application history. The September panel was only my second attempt, so the advice had to have worked because my memo was all that I updated. As for the April list if you were an alternate, as per line 3. "The 09-19 DCO Panel alternate list remains effective until the Secretary approves the results of the next DCO Panel for the alternate selectee’s respective program. Alternates are encouraged to reapply to maximize their commissioning opportunities." I believe this means that the April list is now void if you have not been contacted since 03-20 results are here . CONGRATULATIONS to all who have made the list and CONGRATULATIONS to all that did not make the list at all. I say CONGRATULATIONS because its a feet to even be eligible for Direct Commission. Apply again, and again, and again until they tell you to stop. The best part of DCO is that panels convene just about every 6 months.

See you all at the May DCO school, CHEERS!

    congrats to you!

I will most definitely apply again with the #1 alternate mentioned in the package.  Hopefully I receive some type of update soon.  My 368 is only good until May 2020, then I would have to reapply for the conditional release.

    @seanMM,

Hey man. What sub field of intel are you hoping to specialize? Do you know where billets are? Likelihood of getting training? How the negotiation process works? I figure you have some good gouge. Would love to hear from ya.

PTMO Selectees: Please feel free to PM me regarding the process from selection, to assignment, to accession, reporting, and DCO school. I was a prior ARNG O3 to O2 PTMO selectee for the SEP 2018 board. The PTMO path is not as straightforward as the DCA, DCE, DCIO career path.

I'm not on the Intel list. I am on the DCE list and hopefully I can get into cyber, project management, or cloud infrastructure. A bonus one would be getting into project management at the Coast Guards Research and Development unit. One of my cutter buddies made it through DCE and got R&D for his first unit as an ENS. I don't believe there is much of a negotiation processes when picking your first unit. The AO presents to all the selectees the choices you can pick from and you just list them all in order of priority and email it back. I believe they look at your choices compared to needs of the service along with your resume and wants that you may have listed in your memo. Again, I’m not going Intel so I have no idea how that world is but I am sure the processes is similar.

Does anyone have any further information on the commissioning date(s)? I’m forward deployed so I’m trying to find out sooner than later so I can start planning when to come back stateside.

    Regarding timelines and job selection.
During the accession process you will each work with CGRC on ensuring that they have all of the paperwork necessary to process your hire. It will be important that you are timely in your communications with them, especially on the actual commissioning date.
After the letter of intent, I think it was nearly 2 months until the next contact from CGRC. Be patient. It was challenging for those of us transitioning directly from Active Duty of another service.

I was a SEP2018 DCO selectee for PTMO. We had approximately 9 total DCSS & PTMO selectees and all were slated Response Ashore except 1, who was Prevention.
I had little to no contact with the detailer. Keep in mind that the detailer for each career field is working with hundreds of active duty officers. It is possible that you will get a potential list of available billets in February. We received 3 revised lists between January - April 2019. Ultimately it was very near the commissioning date before we knew where we were going. That said, last year's assignment season was challenging and delayed due to the shutdown.

Any DCSS or PTMO that have specific questions are welcome to PM me.

The C4IT (DCE) AO has recently posted a note on the USCG Portal page saying that O-3 and below aren't expected until March 15th. I assume we are lumped in with that. I am not sure if that means we can expect orders by then or receive choices. I know we are considered Mid-year and are looked at once they finish the O-5 billets; which I think they are wrapping up now. I wouldn't start holding your breath until after the holidays. I suspect we will receive further correspondence by Feb. Not sure if you have USCG Portal access or not but the OPM-2 page posts updates there. I think we are only half way through the "long wait." Hang in there.

Oh and DA is going down very soon for end of the year documents to be posted for current USCG members. This is the system that the AO's use to send orders. With it being down I can see that holding up the last few O-5 orders. Definitely don't expect any form of correspondence until after the New Year.

I'm in Guam so I am going to do my ceremony at the Marine memorial at Asan beach where the invasion was. Than later that evening I'm going to treat my department out for dinner at a local BBQ restaurant. I would choose a place that is significant to you and make it memorable. That of course is up to you. I know people who just did it at their unit or the recruiters office. Having a reception after is nice to make it memorable but its not necessary. One of my friends did theirs at a park and hosted a bbq right after. I would keep it simple. I take it your looking for ideas?

I have been following this thread since I started to apply for DCE, So I thank everyone who commented, the bits and piece of info I have picked up since its inception has been helpful. It's nice knowing everyone is in the same boat as me.

I was selected Primary for DCE, received the welcome letter and will commission on 27APR with school 28MAY to 02JUL like the rest of you guys. Excited about that, this has been quite the journey for me.

I was told that after commissioning, we will head to our first unit for approximately a month, then get TDY orders to New London, CT. Is this the same understanding everyone else has?

I am currently a practicing civil engineer for a private firm and notified my employers of my plans this past Friday. Told them straight up, they were receptive of the news but obviously stressed out to lose me. I gave them about 50 days of advance notice and told them I would help them find someone to fill my position. I am going to take about a month off to get my affairs in order prior to commissioning and hang out with the wife and kid before the long time away from them.

Any info is appreciated, I might need to adjust my last day depending on the info you guys provide me. Thanks in advance and see you at the school.

Thanks for the confirmation @maxtaylorsmith. It seems to me if we commission on 27APR, then have travel time to our units, it will be less than a month depending on our home of record and distance to our first unit. Either way, I'm standing by to stand by for the AO.

You are correct that with travel time you will have less than 30 days. We only have 30 days between commissioning and school. I am personally stressing out about this because I am currently stationed in Guam with my family. Nothing like scheduling military movers last minute. I may have to actually leave my family here to move on their own. It all comes down to when we actually receive orders. I have been talking with Officers that went to DCO school 6 months ago and they all told me they received orders about two weeks before commissioning. Hopefully we all receive our choices soon.

    @seanMM

If it is any consolation, I am leaving my family for the initial move and through OCS (my wife is a teacher and we both feel its necessary for her to continue through the end of the school year to provide continuity for her students during state testing season). I talked with our liaison, and was informed that scheduling the HHG move after we graduate is not an uncommon practice, albeit may be slightly tougher due to it being in the height of transfer season. I plan on doing a DITY move, so it should be easier. In your situation, being in Guam, you may not have any other option than going through government movers.

At the very least, holding off on the move until after graduation could be an option for you to consider. Everyone has a unique situation to navigate..

I plan on staying in a hotel for the first month at my first unit while looking for a permanent place. My thought is to not pay rent in two places, especially if no one will be there for 5 weeks of the lease.

Hey Sean when I Commissioned last year I was stationed in Alaska. Due to being overseas, I spoke with the detailer and my new unit (once I finally received orders) and was allowed to PCS AFTER DCO school. I went to school in May and graduated July 3rd, flew back to Alaska, did my TLA for 10 days, then drove from Anchorage to Seattle. I didn't report until the end of July. The detailers are pretty good with the OCONUS individuals especially with the delay in orders.

Also once you submit your list, you will receive a personal phone call from detailer telling you where you are going before you get official orders. I received the call on a Friday and had the orders my Monday or Tuesday.

Thanks Devin. I was really stressing the move from Guam. I think this might be the best option, however convincing the family is a different story. I think it all really depends on when we get orders. It is nice to know they will work with you on that. I hope we get our picks soon, this wait is killing me. How soon before commissioning did you get picks and how soon before commissioning did you get orders?

Hey all, just joined the forum. I'll be at the 28MAY DCO school, coming over through PTMO.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and congrats again to Hollow23 for getting picked up!

Anyone else having to redo their flight physical before the commissioning date? Mine is expiring before then and the recruiter called to tell me I have to redo the whole class 1A again. Kinda frustrating because it took forever the first time and I thought it was valid for a lot longer.

Yep. This is very common (happens to almost everyone?) due to the long lead time between submitting your packet and actually commissioning. Such is life. It's a small price to pay for getting picked up.

Well that’s reassuring. I agree it’s a small price to pay.

for everyone asking about assignments, orders, hearing from the AO, etc, exhale and don't hold your breath. I'm currently at HQ and was a primary DCIO selection from the September panel, so ill see everyone at school. it terms of assignments, every year is different. that said, the CG is short at the O4 level, esp in cyber and intel. they are finalizing O-4 orders and notifications and moving on to O-3 and below. maybe we're looped into that, maybe not. what I can tell you is OPM is working like crazy to get orders and notifications cut, with the AOs working until late in the evening every night. doesn't make the waiting any easier on us, but its just the nature of the game.

Hey coastie719, I am applying for the Mar panel for DCIO and DCSS. Currently, Army enlisted and in the imagery field. If you dont mind saying, what is your background and as far as the notification timeline went for you, did you receive "unofficial notification" around a month after the panel like they talk about? Or did you not find out until they were mailed? I had read about the unofficial notification in the ojak, but they havent updated the ojak for several years so was unsure if still applicable.

I was told to disregard the rank column, all the billets for engineers were for LTJG and LT. Not sure if that's how the list is for the other DC programs.

I'm an IT guy so I listed all the civil eng jobs very last. My top two C5I choices are amazing. I bet I get stuck in VA though.

My #1 is slightly out of my comfort zone, but I am ready for a challenge. The wife and I are not in love with this list by any stretch of the imagination. Seems like we got the bottom of the barrel, with that said we will try again in 3 years!

As someone that is in the Army and at Ft. Bragg (which has a pretty bad reputation), I learned that the duty station is what you make it. You may think you may not like a place, but may love it. Just my 2 cents.
I have submitted for the Mar panel (DCIO and DCSS). I don't think the duty station will bother me, just hoping to get picked up. But then again, I am single, so I don't have the pressure of pleasing another party. Wishing for you guys get something you want. This is so nerve-racking, all the waiting! hahaha. My recruiter says they "need" intel officers, but from my research over the past 7 years, looks like it is consistently competitive. I qualify for DCSS, so threw in that packet as well. Very excited as to what the future holds. Happy for you guys! Really appreciate you guys posting about the process.

@zeus89 Absolutely right, No such thing as bad units only bad attitudes. We are grateful to be in the position we are no matter the location or job description. Good luck to you, you will get picked up

I think our choices are great. There are some solid choices and some exciting ones. Honestly I think the only one I would not enjoy is the Pascagoula. However, as AGasp said its all about your attitude. I have had what I thought was a bad unit, turn into the best place I have ever been stationed. Looking back I took it for granted. Cheers to a short wait for orders.

Oh, then 30 days before commission, at DCO school and then you will continue to get weighted in every 6 months until you exit the service. It never ends lol. It is in the Ojak and DCO reporting guide, https://www.forcecom.uscg.mil/Portals/3/Documents/LDC/Reporting%20Guides/DCO%20Pre-Reporting%20Guide%20APR_2019.pdf?ver=2019-04-22-092954-580
