I put my first DCE application in. I just got orders to a boat since I'm above the cut for IT1, so I'm really hoping I'm selected as a primary, lol. Good luck y'all!

^ yup - anxiously awaiting word as well!

Good luck everyone - hopefully the current situation doesn't stop them from meeting :-/

Looking at the thread from the last time - board met on 16/17 Sep 2019 - and the results were out around the 17th of October 2019......

So ...... if they follow the same trend - we are looking at about another month before we hear anything.........I'm trying to be cool - but the suspense is killing me - lol

I hadn’t heard yet - the joys of living in almost an opposite time zone.
But that is good news - hopefully they release their decisions quickly afterwards :-/

Sucks we have to wait another month - but it’s better than if they had straight up cancelled the panel - that would have been the worst - 😂

Omg, I would not survive that, if they straight up cancelled. I'm still kinda nervous of that being a possibility. But I feel like the fact that they pushed it right, that gives them time to either set up a telework option, or move it to a less hit area, etc. So there is really no reason that they cant figure it out. And accessions should be still be mission essential. Let us know if anyone hears anything. I dont want to harass my recruiter too much

Has anybody heard (or seen via CG Portal) if a subsequent message has been released concerning the following board - e.g. August/September timeframe? Is it still on timeline, pushed, etc. Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone! I am active duty Navy applying under PTMO for this board. Found my way here after my recruiter was having difficulty getting me updates about the board.
Out of curiosity, where is everyone getting info on the messages for what's going on with the board? Does someone have CG Portal CAC access (obviously my Navy credentials don't work) or is there a public site available?
I've found the https://www.dcms.uscg.mil/General-Messages/ALCGPSC/ site but that doesn't seem to include any ALCGRECRUITING messages, which appear to be the variety that apply to the board and board results.
Thanks much and stay healthy out there!

I spoke with my recruiter on Tuesday. He said that a message was sent out last week to recruiters that the board was pushed to April 27th with results typically going out 2-3 weeks after. Commissioning is still scheduled for December with DCO starting in January.

He didn't forward me the message, so I am assuming it was sent directly to recruiters.

Anyone have word on whether the board was held or not? I wouldn't be surprised if it was pushed again. I'm mentally preparing myself for a long wait. I'm a DCA applicant from the Navy btw.

    Good evening everyone.

I’m USMC hoping to get picked up on PTMO.

How many applicants typically get selected for PTMO? I saw 3 with 3 alternates from the last board. PTMO is very last of the pickings right? So they only select packages if there are any vacancies needing to be filled?

@73SAR Results normally take 4-6 weeks. Obviously, if they take 2-3 this time that would be great, but not what's happened in the past. Did your recruiter allude to the possibility that results would come out sooner (2-3 weeks, like you mentioned) because of the delay in the board? Trying to discern if this was actual guidance passed to him/her or if they are just an overly  optimistic recruiter.

I was told unofficial results are told to the recruiters a week or two in advance of the official results and they pass the word along to applicants. I'm hoping next week we start hearing whos been selected. The official results will be around June yeah. I'll take any news, I'm dying here, haha

@Zeus89, I believe he was speaking in regard to unofficial results. Looking at past boards, I believe we are still looking at 4 weeks from the panel convening date. From my experience with this recruiter I'd say he was being a little too optimistic when he mentioned results may be available 2-3 weeks after the date. He didn't mention anything about quicker results because the board was delayed.

I am also hoping for next week after refreshing my email like a madman all week. I finally asked a contact at HQ who said she knew where the package was this past week and it "isn't there yet," which I took to mean hasn't make it to the Commandant for signature. I still think 4 weeks after panel is optimistic but nothing is normal these days so it could happen. Fingers crossed.

FYI everyone, the reason why DCO results take longer is because they need to be approved by the DHS Secretary for appointment.

My recruiter called me right after I saw this. Glad I got selected and I'm honored to be given this opportunity to serve. Now the waiting game starts all over again for commissioning and orders. Good luck to everyone else.

So I got selected for PTMO, but I saw in the message that it says it is a “reserve commission” Sorry if this is a dumb question but I wanted an active duty contract. Does this mean I can only serve in the Coast Guard Reserve?

No. You will be a Reservist on AD.

Thank you, and at the end of my 3 year AD obligation, do I have to go back to the reserves? Or do I have an opportunity to stay on active duty to continue a career?

I got one of the DCIO alternate spots.

Disappointed but I’m hopeful seeing as looking back on some of the other threads some of the alternates have been picked up in the past.

Guess we will see what happens and I will start prepping a package for the next board.

When your initial three years are nearly up, you can apply to integrate into the AD side of the Coast Guard

Conversely, what happens when you decide to get out after the 3 year commitment? Can you transition to a reserves position or are you just let go?

As long as you haven't been passed over for promotion more than twice, you can transition into the Reserve

DCIO primary here, is the time between promotions the same as other services? I am currently a CW2 in the army and got picked up for LTJG - just curious when I would be looked at for LT and LCDR.

After 36 months you'll get LT. Off the top of my head it's like a 97% promotion rate from O2 to O3.

LT is where you'll spend most of your time.

For those who were selected, do you mind replying to this thread when you receive your official letters? How long after the release of the message do people typically receive their notice letters? Also , at what point in the process does a detailer typically reach out to you to discuss assignment?

Thanks Bearded. Do you know the typical time frame from pinning LT to getting looked at for LCDR? Just trying to plan way out in advance.

I believe it's 8 years (maybe 10?), but don't quote me on that. The CG Portal site is down at the moment so I can't check the official numbers.

Hello, ladies and gentlemen, longtime lurker, first time poster. I've been stalking this forum for what feels like months now, and I'm super excited to have picked up a DCA slot. I have a question, I'm hoping to come over to the Coast Guard with 20 days of leave. Does anyone know how I can make that happen? Also, I see my name on that roster but no recruiter has reached out and I've not gotten any mail...am I alone in that?

I am on the primary DCL list and got a call from my recruiter but no documents yet. I blacked out a little from excitement on the call, but I believe he said to expect documents via email. So far, I still haven't received anything ether (email or snail mail).

I am a primary too and have yet to receive anything as well. My recruiter did reach out for some supplemental medical forms but I think we wont see much move forward until after we sign the offer for our commission in email/snail mail we are supposed to get within the month after unofficial results are released.

8 years sounds like a long time, is that something that pertains to cg officer promotions solely? Seems like other branches all promote around the 6 yr mark from O-3 to O-6.

You're also talking about a much smaller service. The entire CG is only about 40,000, roughly 32,000 AD and 8,000 Reservists.  That's just slightly larger than the NYPD.  It stands to reason that if the Service is smaller, then there are fewer promotions.

Pretty sure 8yrs is long. 1.5yrs O1, 2.5 O2, and I believe you get looked at around 5yrs to pin on around 6+.  But in the CG there has to be a vacancy to pick up 04 and above.  So the amount of people getting out may affect zone sizes and selection rates, but I highly doubt you spend 8yrs as a LT before getting looked at.

Nothing here yet. Is there a FB group or page for our upcoming class yet? Might be a good idea so we can share information too.

Got mine today too. Anybody know if they have to do another physical? The offer letter kind of read like that. My recruiter said that means they are just reviewing the original commissioning physical, just curious if anyone heard otherwise.

I think they will be reviewing the original physical that was submitted with the package. This is typically the stage where people have their medical waivers looked at if they submitted any. Otherwise i don't think we have another physical before we commission. I think we do have to be weighed and possibly take a PT test though. Can anyone confirm this information?

    From ENS:
    - 1.5 yr to O2
    - 2.5 yr to O3
    - 6 yrs avg for O4

As long you don't screw up... it's pretty high percentage that majority will make O3. If you don't make O4, you are processed out; boards are very competitive at that level and higher.

I figured there's a mechanism to get the green light if you are someone who lifts heavy weights and you are over the weight cut off.

Anybody know the exact commissioning date or have a POC who might have that info? I am trying to find out so I can set my last day in the army for my transition.

In addition to this, has anyone heard anything back after they sent back the signed paperwork? I have gotten nothing back.

Hollow, what were some issues you faced while going through the transition from your previous branch to the CG? Just want to know what we might face in the coming months. My biggest concern is getting DFAS to square away pay changes.

Any alternates heard any intel? Wonder if the availability of additional billets will be positively or negatively affected by COVID? In a way, I would assume assessions may take a hit (and DoD isn't letting folks join with a history of COVID, unsure what CG is doing). But at the same time, when they project out a few alternates to eventually pick up, they have no idea if folks they thought were getting out - are staying in because of the economy.

Nothing here.  I have similar thoughts.  COVID extensions leaving less opportunities for us to get picked up out the alternate list is a huge concern.

I've already engaged with some folks to strengthen my package for another go around.  Biggest issue now is fighting off PCS orders...

So far I havent had any issues. Just make sure your rank is correct when you sign your commissioning  docs.  if you have 4 yrs of service, make sure you have that -E with your rank.  If not you will not get paid correctly.

I had a question on rank/grade coming over to the Coast Guard. So was recently selected for DCE as an O3 (realize this is the DCO page however there's a lot of activity in this thread). I'm currently 8 years active duty army and I've been CPT for 3 plus years now. By the time I transfer over I'll be 3.5 years time in grade as an O3. I was curious if my time in grade will carry over? I already know my time in service transfers however was hoping that time in grade does as well. Main reason I ask is for career progression timeline for a 20 year career. If my time in grade resets it only alters my overall career progression by 3.5 years which isn't bad. Was just really hoping not to be an O3 for a grand total of 9-10 years.

My guess is it would reset so you get a handful of oer's that are coast guard specific before you get looked at for O-4. I'm just an army warrant currently, but a good friend of mine transferred from the guard to active duty last year and he was already selected for O-4 in the guard but they reset his TIG as an O-3 once he went active. He has to wait that 5 yrs again before he gets looked at for MAJ, just my 2 cents.

Nothing - I’m low on the alternate list for DCIO - so I’m not holding my breath.

Already prepping a package for the September Board - but my current CC is making things difficult..........

SMH - as much as I’m not holding my breath - I REALLY hope I get the call :-/

For DCA applicants, what happens if you get selected as an alternate? I assume primary means you got the slot, but alternate? Does that mean they will pick you if one of the other primary slots pull out?

I have some questions about transitioning from active duty army to coast guard (primary select here) and was hoping someone can message me directly to clarify a few things. Jut wondering the best way to handle terminal leave, should I cash it out or take it? And once we commission in th CG do we start getting paid right away or not until we report to our first duty station?

I'm active army as well and I'll be transferring my leave over. It just needs to be annotated on your dd214 or have your final LES with your leave balance.

take your leave.. I took 31 days with me.. it comes in handy when the holidays roll around and you look at your balance and have 2 days in there instead of 40.. I would take the leave forsure...

I just finished DCO.. course was okay.. nothing too stressful..COVID made it less fun than it should of been. we got liberty the LAST weekend with 2130 curfew and New London city limit boundary.. Munroe Hall is clean..small room.. good room service.. you will pay 970 bucks unless you have Government Travel Card activated.. you will also pay about 200-300 in uniform/tailoring charges.. another 400 for all hands and lunches at the O-club.. so have your finances in order before u arrive.

Philosophy Panels at  the end were cool dont stress it.
prior service members will be quite bored.. but its only 5 weeks.. lol..

When you say we'll pay 970 for a room unless we have a government travel card, what do you mean?

Should I keep my current GTC active when I transfer over? It was a pain getting it in the first place and I don't want to go through that again.

That may not be an option.  Typically you're required to surrender the card when you separate from service. Also, there's the possibility that the bank that DoD uses to issue it's cards may not be the same one DHS uses.

How does PCSing/household goods and acquiring my new ID card work for people transitioning from a different service?

I assume once we receive orders we can start working that issue. I'm hoping that I don't have to wait until I have my DD214 in hand IOT pick up my new ID card and initiate/request household goods movement through the website (can't remember the url) and then set up the appointment at my local transportation office.

we did PT for the first 2 weeks together at 0500 on the field.. then after that it was whenever you can fit it around OCS and their schedule.. Covid restrictions have the gym hours very limited. so ppl just pretty much ran around base...base liberty most likely won't be granted until late in the course and after the multiple covid test results are back

I didnt come from the CG therefore my GTC from my prior branch was inactive.. Noone in our class had an active GTC so we all had to pay out of pocket for everything at the academy. uniforms room meals etc.

If u are prior CG talk with ur unit and see if your GTC can stay active. Im not sure how that would work.  I am pretty sure when you move units you are required to get a new GTC account... So just be prepared to spend about 2K during the course

your assumptions are pretty accurate.  It actually works just as you explained it.  you can't get another ID card until you commission. Once you have that you can work the rest. your new unit will assist you with the HHG info. once you get an assignment your YN will reach out and get HHG started for you.

    Hello All,

I'll be applying for DCIO, and was curious what it took to make the cut as primary this round? How many years of experience, any specific certifications or qualifications? I'll be finishing up my degree from University of North Georgia (Senior Military College) and I have 10 years of experience. Three years Army and seven years contractor. Five of those seven years deployed. Half of my 10 years with various Special Operations units. Five years Targeting and five years doing Full Motion Video analysis for drones.

Also, anyone have any advice going into the board?

    Thanks
