Hey guys, my name is Rob new to the site. I'm 25 years old was going to join the USCG right out of high school but got caught up in my towns Fire Department and spent the last 7 years trying to become a career firefighter. Thanks to the economy it looks like that will not be happening anytime soon. So i got back in touch with a recruiter and am thrilled to be finally joining. Perhaps it was simply fate and was supposed to be in when i was 18. I am shipping from north jersey to TRACEN Cape May June 7th 2011. Nervous about the unknown but excited to start my career off. I am looking to go BM and will most llikely be striking my rate rather than waiting on the A-School list since i hear it is rather long right now. I have an ultimate goal of working my way up to Surfman. I have the up most respect for Coastie in the USCG, as well as any member of the US Armed Forces. To all current Coasties in and out basic training, Bravo Zulu! And stay safe!

Thank you very much brother! I'm really excited i just went to DEP yesterday, suprizingly it was even longer than MEPS was. But got through it and just have to wait for the big day now! |

I'm actually sister... the pic is my son on a port call in Costa Rica. LOL But it's all good. I'm from NJ and I have been called a whole lot worse than brother! |

Hi Rob,
Welcome to the site. Congrats on the ship date and DEP. That's awesome! Next week I'll be in Jersey for the first time and going to Cape May. This board has been a huge part of that and the people on it are outstanding. You've landed in a good place.

I was in the same boat on the career fire path... but thanks to budget cuts i have been trapped in reserve status for 4 years and am heading to Cape May in one week. Find "CaptKyGuy" on this forum. A training Captain in Garland, TX and a valuable resource on this board. |

Jeepin, Like I said, no worries what so ever!!! I have my CDL and I was a truck driver in NJ for a few years... Like I said brother should be the worst thing I've been called driving down the turnpike in my truck! HAHAHA |
