I'm just about to get out of college with a bachelor's in Computer Information Systems. I know it may seem backwards, but I was thinking about joining the coast guard. I was thinking about it before college, but then just went with the flow and going to college instead of joining the Coast Guard. I love the water and I love my country, so what better place to serve then the Coast Guard!!

I know its not a reason to join or not join, but do I get anything extra for having the my college diploma? Rank? Bonus? etc....

If I'm right you should go in as an E-3 after basic, meaning you will be making $1,501 per month.

Then since you have a degree, you can apply for officer candidate training. If you go to that it will take 17 weeks, but once you pass you will be an officer and you pay should start at $2,416 per month.

As for a bonus, that all depends on where you life. Chances are, no you will not get one. However, you having that college degree will come in handy for your future. Once you become an officer that is where the BIG money can start.
