Do you have to get shots when you go to Meps? Or blood work? I go to Meps Monday for finger printing but if I have to get shots I'm gonna be one sad puppy lol

You'll get all your shots at Cape May, and more blood work...plus a FULL medical and dental exam.

But if you don't like needles, you WILL have blood drawn when you're processed at the MEPS, so prepare for that. When I went through, the techs were absolute pros. They get a lot of practice. Quickest most painless shot I've ever had.

Well see I just got blood work done 2weeks ago so I wanted to know if I can get the results from the hospital and bring it to Meps so I don't have to get blood done lol. I will try anything to not get it done Hehe

Hmm, not sure about that, maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in. But I kind of doubt you can get out of it. MEPS likes their own tests.

    +1 Jek

The only way you get out of shots or blood tests is if you have a current immunization record.

Maybe, maybe not. There will be a CG liaison there to make sure things go smoothly. You'll sign it sometime after you DEP, you'll make the arrangements with your recruiter.

My recruiter was at meps the whole time but they are not going to walk around and hold your hand. He was in the Coast Guard office with his chief. I saw him at the end of the day and parts of it inbetween to deal with various paperwork. And like they said above meps likes to do their own test and like their own results. In bootcamp they will do blood work to see what shots you need.... Like Tetnis, Measles/Mumps/Rubella shot. etc. They test to see if they are still in your system if not you will likely recieve those shots you also will most likely get (unless you are sick in medical like me) a smallpox vaccination which will leave a scar in your arm.. Sad times. I also hear the thing itches and stinks really bad! I have to get mine when I go to A school.... Sooooooooo not looking forward to that. BLECH! Good luck!

It's a small scar that you won't notice. Just don't touch the affected area and you will be fine.

I got that shot before a few years ago...killed my arm lol... Would it be a good idea to wear sweats to Meps and a shirt? Or should I dress in jeans? I saw on the paper my recruiter gave me about Meps and it said to bring my prescriptions for my glasses? I don't have that will I have to get it? I know I'm asking to many question but I gotta be prepared

Check out this thread for clothing.
    http://www.uscg.org/Forum/aft/9733.aspx

Personally I wore jeans and a plain, single-color t-shirt. As many will tell you, wear normal underwear! The MEPS folks will have you prancing around in it so def nothing racy, flashy or skidmarked (lol)! I wouldn't recommend sweats, I'd wear something somewhat presentable. But if you decide to you won't be totally out of place, you'll fit in w/ some of the Army boys I was processed with. Make sure it's comfortable though, you will be sitting around waiting your turn for hours.

Not sure about glasses, I'll defer that to someone more knowledgeable.

Colin wore bright orange boxers with a bottle of Tabasco across the front and "Hot Stuff Inside" emblazoned across his backside when he went to MEPS. That kid is just too strange! Just like leaving for Cape May... Hair down way past his shoulders! He wanted a free haircut that would be worth what he paid for it! LOL

I swear the stork left me the wrong kid... I just can't explain how he looks so much like his father & I!

Just bring your glasses, they will check your eyes. And, work out clothes will be fine for MEPS.
