Really? Millions of users have their personal data made public, and Sony apologizes??!!?

    So the discussion goes,

Are we heading in the right direction with online databases containing our personal data, Sony, Credit company's, Health care records, etc. At what price is the average american willing to pay for a little convenience?

That day I received 4 emails about the breach... Best Buy, Walgreens, Hilander (grocery store) & Kroeger (also a grocery store same as Hilander, just one from Texas, one from here). All I could think was "wonderful, now I'm going to be spammed 4 times!!" So far I haven't noticed a thing. So I'm not sure what the breach completely entailed. But I know I hate the idea that it is that easy to get my info, even if it is just my home address or email and nothing more than that. Of course I don't like the Best Buy part... if it keeps records of purchases from Best Buy points thingy... I don't want some hacker to know what tvs, cameras, laptops, phones, data sticks (air cards), stereo equipment that I've purchased for my home... sort of makes me feel like the next thing I should buy is a home security system.

Pretty sure you have a very good home security system already in place with your furry friends...

The breach sucks but electronic data is where we are at like it or not...hackers will always hack what cannot be hacked...we can only hope for the best.
I want to finally set it free, So show me how to see what Your mercy sees, Help me now to give what You gave to me...Forgiveness, Forgiveness

I look at it this way... hackers are a breed of people who CAN get into anything if they want it bad enough. There's no amount of security that can stop that. The best we can do is make it hard enough so that it's not worth their effort.

As for this breach, there's not a lot you can do, nor Sony for that matter. I have no doubt they had security in place and as I said, someone just wanted through bad enough. Yes, they apologized. No, it's probably not enough, but I don't expect them to go hand a TV to all their customers either. There really isn't a whole lot they can do other than buff up their security again and warn their customers.

"Hey everyone, we really screwed the pooch on this one. We are going to identify the 10M people affected, and give them free credit monitoring for a year. If any deviant transactions are made on those accounts Sony Corp will personally reimburse those people for their time and trouble."

Just kidding, I made that up. No corporation is going to take responsibility for anything they've done.

They say it is strictly email addresses, no personal info, no credit info, no SSN, no credit cards... so all they can do with my email is send me MORE ads for viagra and hot women looking for a hot guy in my area. Well good luck, so am I! LOL

^wouldn't be related. You only entered your credit card, email, billing address into a PS3 account. What you put in is what they can take. Even if they have this info your SSN is not obtainable for this info.

Basically, everyone is going to be saying their stuff got stolen and things not related and so forth, a huge **** show for Sony, they already have one lawsuit.

I have a card i use only for online purchases. Simply cancelled it and had a new one mailed out. The thing that makes me mad is they said PSN was down for routine maintenance and kept holding stuff back. They said it all data was encrypted but doesn't look like it.
PenFed had a breach and took a while to notify (notified by mail also). They offered credit monitoring to make up for it. I no longer bank with PenFed. These things will happen it's part of technology and it's an assumed risk, but it matters how to company responds.

Exactly! Life is unpredictable, we simply put a little trust into companies like Sony in hopes that the enjoyment we get out of their products will be more than the fear of the risk that something like this happens. There will ALWAYS be a risk, no matter who you purchase with.
