So I've been to MEPS twice, but I ship in 2 weeks and I'm not really sure of the process on that day. Do you go through the whole physical, urinalysis, etc? Of just height and weight? |

You'll just get your height and weight checked which takes all of 10 minutes. Then you'll spend the rest of the morning going through final processing. |

+1 to Gears. After you get your weight and height is checked, you will sit around until you get called back to Operations to be interviewed by one of the workers, similar to what you did on DEP day. After that, you will go back to your liaison to go over your DEP discharge, and then go back to swear in to active duty, which is around 0930 at my MEPS. Then, you will go through a travel briefing, get your meal vouchers, etc. When you get to Philadelphia, make sure you eat before reporting into the USO lounge, provided that you get there early enough in the day. Otherwise, if you report into the USO first, they will take your meal vouchers and all you will be able to eat is the snack style food that they have there. It is something that I am working to correct, but it hasn't happened just yet. The meal voucher is YOURS, not theirs, so make sure you use it. Also... Make sure that any liquids or gels that you pack are 3.1 ounces or less, as per TSA regulations, and they are stored in a 1 quart zip lock style bag. |

interesting. For some reason my recruiter told me since the Coast guard is not part of the department of defense, the only thing they use MEPS for is for physicals and testing. I dont swear in or leave from my MEPS. I go into the recruiting office and he gives me a ticket and off i go, either from a ride from him or if i can find one myself. |

Lenk you may not need to ship from Meps, there are certain situations where you may be direct shipped from the recruiting office. Your recruiter is the only one who can answer questions pertaining to your situation. |

Talked to my recruiter today, all we do from MEPS is Physical. The day before i leave i am supposed to report to my recruiters office and he will give me my flight information, my ticket, and answer my final questions, then i get to stay home that night. That morning he is required to give me a ride to the airport unless my family will (which they will) and thats what he told me. I don't understand why its different between these places. Im shipping from Denver Meps. |

lenkijj, Some offices have to do things differently. It's just the way it goes sometimes. I have direct-shipped people, but it's not something I do very often. Some offices have certain circumstances where they have to do it more frequently. If we could avoid MEPS altogether, I would definitely be on board, but until that happens, we do what we have to do. |

I've asked my recruiter this and I may have asked it a few times here. I leave for basic on April 24 so does that mean I swear in to active duty on the 23rd and leave the next day? Will I be able to be with my family until I have to actually board the plane? When I swore in to DEP, the other people swearing in to active duty didn't stay at a hotel the night before, will that be the same for me? I understand that it varies with other offices, I was just wondering what's the typical routine. |
