I am currently in the Navy as an E5/Master At Arms looking at other options outside of the Navy. I will be seperating in early 2013 with 5 1/2 Years of Active Duty experience. I am interested in the Maritime Enforcement Specialist ME rating in the USCG. My question is will I still be dropped all the way down to an E3 even tho the two ratings are similar?

The chances are greater than not that you will reduce to an E3 and go through boot camp. Best bet is to talk with a recruiter when you are within 6 months of separation from the Navy.
I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them that as a trusted Coastie, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves.

Even if MA and ME were identical, which they are not (in fact, they are very different), ME is not on the Open Rate List (ORL). This means that they are not hurting for people in the ME rating. A rating has to be on the ORL for someone to enter directly into the Coast Guard and keep their paygrade. It wouldn't take too long to earn your paygrade back within the Coast Guard though. In the Coast Guard, advancement is largely in the hands of the member.
You can meet the standard, or you can set the standard. It's your choice.

I was in the Coast Guard for 12 years. I realized that they didn't like me during all of that time, sio I got out and joined another service. You're better off staying away from the CG and all of their BS waivers. Jobs/duties are easy, but has a lot of pricks in it. Trust me, you will find it is not worth it especially after 9/11.

Ahhh, one disgruntled member (supposedly, we don't know who this is, can be a troll)... so disgrutled they felt the need to seek out and post to a forum for a branch of service they hated. I worked for a company once that I hated. I can't even tell you if they are in business any longer nor do I care. I hated them, they weren't all that nice to me, they gave me an ultimatum, I walked out and I have never looked back. So please, Mr. Troll, if you weren't happy with the CG and now you found something that does make you happy, just move along. One person does not a branch of military make, nor does one opinion.

Oh and the screen name... still calling yourself a Coastie yet you despised the branch. Interesting little Freudian moment.
