Rick-I wanted to join mainly for IS, but after reviewing the other options, ME doesn't seem too shabby . To be honest, I am perfectly open to any rate, that would just be my preference. Any where the Coast Guard takes me I am sure I'll be happy with it.

I hope we get more members and feedback from others who are leaving with us.
In the meantime- I think it'd be a good idea for us to start working on our Required Knowledge, Rates and Ranks, knots, etc... :-)

Workouts are going pretty good! I'm at about 9:15/mile right now. I'm hoping to improve that significantly before I leave. I've got the push-ups and the  sit-ups down. I haven't swam in a while, so I still need to work on that.

How's everyone doing on their workouts and required knowledge? I have the phonetic alphabet down, but I am having the hardest time remembering the EGO's. I am also wondering if it would benefit me at all to buy the 'blue book' (The Coast Guardsman's Manual) before Bootcamp so I have an idea of what's to come.

To be honest today i read them for the first time. They dont seem to hard to memorize, but tired and getting yelled at while doing push ups my test my memorization skills. i guess is should start memorizing.

Im a pilot so i have the phonetic alphabet down, and both my parents where in the millitary so rates and ranks are burned into my brain. So i guess EGO is all i have to study....... i think. please let me know if there is anything else.

i thought it would be cool to post our push up, sit up, and run numbers in here, start a little friendly compitition to get in shape for boot. i will test my numbers and post later tonight when its below 100 outside

ok so here are my numbers

    push ups in 1:00 - 34
    sit ups in 1:00 - 42
    1.5 mile run - 13:33

Im a little disappointed in my run time. i was running everyday when i had to drop from 245 lbs to 196 lbs to pass through meps. I was clocking the 1.5 at 11:30 ish and had a long slow distance of 6 miles (10:30 mile pace) then i took 2 months off and lost it. i gave it my all though, lost my lunch at the finish line and everything.

goals before i ship to boot are
100 pushups in a single set
100 situps in a single set
    1.5 mile run in 11:00

ill test and post new numbers every sat. so you guys can keep me honest

In Seattle this week and saw my very first Cutter! Technically, it was a buoy-tender, but a small Cutter nonetheless. I believe it was a 563? It was docked right by a Navy ship as well. It was pretty impressive!
