My husband just left for boot camp last Tuesday. Is there anyone else out there who misses a loved one? I am sooo proud of him and counting the days until he comes home! This has been a nerve racking experience so far. Not knowing what's going to happen is a little scary and exciting at the same time. I am new to the military family life and not sure what to expect. Anyone else feeling like this?

Have you seen the USCG Zulu 185 Facebook page? My son has been in the CG for almost 2 years and there was a FB page for his company. It was a great distraction. It was nice to talk with other friends and family that had loved ones in the same company as my son.

    Welcome to the family!

Welcome aboard. That isn't an uncommon feeling. Missing your Coastie is normal and that fear/excitement about not knowing what's next... wow, I remember those days! It was never easy! But it is a big part of the fun. When you start thinking about questions, let us know how we can help! We'll be happy to give some advice. Congratulations.

My boyfriend left last tuesday as well. I am knew to this and I am always coming up with new questions. There is a picture of zulu 185 on the coast guards facebook page, and although it was blurry, i was able spot my coastie When I get home i will put the link up to the page that the picture is on. Writing letters has helped me, cause it makes me feel like I am talking to him. If you keep poking around on this forum you can defintley find a lot of useful information. Same goes for zulu 185's face book page and on the coast guards facebook page.

hey michelle, i can't find zulu 185's facebook page. Do they have one yet? Writing letters has helped me a lot too! I almost feel like I'm talking to him. I can't wait to get my first letter, or see him at graduation! Ready for the weeks to start flying by... I'm starting a dance class next week to fill up some extra time. Thank you to everyone for responding. It's comforting hearing from other people involved in the coast guard.

My son left last Tuesday, Nov. 15th.. I am so proud of my son but I do miss him. We have letters to send him but I don't have the recruit company & which hall he's in - I am going crazy waiting for the first letter!  How long until we receive the first letter? I am so glad I found this forum

I found out on facebook USCG Parents, Families and Friends which company my son's in!. He's in Zulu 185, Healy Hall. So the address would be SR____________________, Recruit Company Zulu 185, Healy Hall, USCG Training Center, 1 Munro, Cape May, NJ 08204-50883. If you haven't joined, you should, they r so helpful.

My husband left on Monday (coming from Hawai'i he had to leave a day early). I finally received a package from the military today telling me his company name, but I guess had I looked on this forum earlier I would have found that out. I am excited to start writing to him. I often wonder what he's doing and how he is feeling. I am always checking in the page where their daily journals are posted but so far nothing yet. In case someone doesn't know the site, it is www.uscgbootcamp.com.

Just copy and paste this link, and it will take you directly to the picture, though you might have to be a member of the zulu 185 group on facebook to access it. If you arent already logged onto facebook, it might ask to to log on, then it will take you to the picture. If you have any problems, friend request me on facebook and I will send you the picture in a private message. Hope this helps!

My daughter is also in Zulu 185.  Just got my letter yesterday, even though it was just the form letter to let us know the rules and address, I was so glad to see her handwriting.  Silly, huh?  It's hard to have them go away and not be able to talk or text everyday.  So glad to see all your messages and know we're all in the same boat   I excited to look for the picture.  I have been watching all of the boot camp videos trying to figure out what she might be doing. I can't wait for the journals to show up.

Michelle Meneze -  I sent you a friend request on FB. I am Kelly Cantrill-Karnehm (Makenzy's Mom)  I would appreciate seeing the picture.  I sent a friend request to Zulu 185 but they have not responded and I am dying to see the picture.  Thank you, thank you!!

Makenzy's Mom - you have to send a private message to one of the admins on the group to assure them you have a recruit at Cape May. Also, make sure to join USCG moms on facebook.  You have to send a message to an admin too but it is the best.
Michelle - thank you for the link. The pics are blurry and I really couldn't see my son but it made my day just seeing them. Thank you very much

    Hello to all,

I am late to this group, but my daughter is in Zulu-185 also.  I am missing her so much.  This is the longest I have ever gone without talking to her.  We have already sent 2 letters to her.  I have been anxiously awaiting the posting from her group on the boot camp link, so appreciate knowing it won't be up for a little while longer.

Doing the happy dance. We thought we weren't going to get anything and we got 4 letters from my son - still doing the happy dance. He did say that he sent a postcard (which we never received). My soul is now at ease. I am so proud of him! He really likes all of his shipmates. ((hugs)) to you all!

Face book has a zulu 185 page. And send letters they need letters and a lot. The worst thing is to have mail call and you don't get a letter.

Roadtrip, I don't join the facebook groups because I don't have a recruit in a company anymore and I have enough problems with the 3 groups I am in LOL... Is there a young lady not getting mail at boot camp??? PM myself and CaptKyGuy, we will get her some letters. Capt writes these amazing letters of support! He went so far as to send them to my ex-husband's step-son when he was in Air Force boot camp & Rusty still appreciates those letters he received. I'll be happy to send a note from Wisconsin just to say hi! Send me her name.

You are right... no one should go through boot without a letter and support!

Davnav: you should join USCG Zulu 185 on facebook. You have to send a message to one of the Admins assuring them that you have a recruit in Company Zulu 185. Check it out. Also during week 4-5 when they march outside of the base,it will be posted on the facebook page.
