Let me ask all of you something... Are you at work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? Do you never take a single vacation day? Will you give up 100% of your leave to always be on call for everyone else? I understand if you are expecting a call or waiting on confirmation and it can be extremely frustrating and disheartening. However, recruiters are entitled to take time off, they are entitled to enjoy the holidays. It is very possible they are busy with other recruits, MEPS, asking for waivers, answering questions. They don't go MIA just to screw with people... they have lives outside of the office. They have incredibly stressful & busy lives INSIDE the office. It has been mentioned before some recruiters in the Coast Guard don't cover a couple of towns... They cover a couple of STATES! You are one person looking for an answer. A recruiter is one person answering questions for potentially hundreds of recruits.

The Army, AF, Navy & Marines have a far larger budget for recruiting purposes. I have also been in some large cities where there may be 2 recruiting stations in the same town! I live in Wisconsin... There is ONE recruiter in the entire state! It's a big state! Imagine taking care of that all on your own! Be patient or give up, that is the only option.

OldGuard, judging from your number of posts and your moderator status it is a safe assumption you are extremely pro Coast Guard. semper Paratus-I have been ready to sign a contract since my recruiter gave me the good to go call. Honor... Integrity - when I was told to be at the office, I was and the recruiter was not. Yes, I did take off work. Two other times, I was told I would be telephoned in the morning so we could meet in the afternoon. My phone never rang. If a recruiter states they are going to do something, do it! Respect- have respect for the ones who are currently serve and return it to those who want to serve. An individual who markets a product will never sell it if they show no respect for the consumer. Likewise, a recruiter has to show a due level of respect for the recruits by following through with what they say they will do. I am able to continue but I think the point is easily made...just because one goes to school to be an educator does not make them a good teacher. This is not an isolated incident! A lot of the people are older adults that have paid some previous dues elsewhere. I served in the Army out of patriotism and nothing else. I want to continue to serve for the same reason.

I agree with both Old Guard and stonecold. You both make very valid points about two different recruiters. As with ANY job, there are good employees and bad ones! I am proud and ready to serve the Coast Guard! I understand that I am not the only recruit that my recruiter is working up a packet for, thus why I don't call or e-mail him constantly to "bother" him about my contract signing, ship date, etc. I've got all my paperwork in and the only thing missing is my John Hancock. Whenever my packet is ready, I will be too. My previous post was not to be disrespectful towards anyone. As Old Guard said, it can be frustrating. I believe that in stonecold's situation, it is frustrating to put all your effort into something, and not have the same level of effort returned (if that's not right, stonecold, I apologize). Hopefully, this post will not disrespect anyone as it was not meant to either.

Abj...there was no disrespect taken. It just is extremely unprofessional to set dates to do something, then make a habit of not showing. A successful mission depends on the active and thorough participation of all involved parties. The majority of my service time is in the Army but I enjoy being involved in the Coast Guard mission. The CG is kinda like the boy scouts of all the military... It's fun with a specific purpose.

Hi Amy, that's pretty exciting! My recruiter is XXXXXX. She mentioned today that there may be another girl going to depot and mst school with me, really happy to hear that! my number is XXXXXX and email is XXXXX. call me so we can talk more!

Moderator edit - Please do not mention Coast Guard personnel names on the open forum.  If you would like to start a personal conversation trading phone numbers, that is fine but please do it in Private Message.  Any questions, please feel free to send me a PM to discuss.  Old Guard2, I'm easy to find.

    Thank you,
    Macie

Hey guys and girls I just got home from DEPOT today! I would recommend you all know your 11 orders, ethos, rates and ranks. You will be expected to know all of this in a short time period so don't think you can just wing it. I would also recommend being able to pass ALL of the physical requirements easily. Getting up an extra hour early for training is terrible. We had several shipmates that had to get up at 0430 and sleep is limited to begin with. Make the most of your experience and understand that this is a REAL boot camp and you won't be getting any slack for being older, educated, and prior service. In fact your CC will expect more of you. Do what you are told the way you are supposed to and it's all good. Bets of luck! Long live the chewy bar!

laxkid, we are going to DEPOT training, which is a 3 week basic training for recruits that have either prior military or professional experience. check with your recruiter if you believe you qualify. otherwise, the 8 week boot camp program will start on 03/13. hope this helps!

    Hi y'all~

I'm 99% set to ship out for March 11, 2012 DEPOT.
My recruiter is almost done with my package.....
I'm going to be stationed as MST at Sector NY. My A school is schedule to be on July 30th so I hope some of you MSTs on this thread are going with me so I might see some familiar faces. ^_^

I'll check back after the ink dries on the "dotted line"....hehe ...sometime next week.
It's getting so close.... very excited. Time to hit the gym more religiously...

xmcr, if you want to chat MST look for Southern118. He is our resident MST and a good guy willing to share. My ex-husband was also an MST when he was enlisted and he has been an M officer for the rest of his career. He is the CO of MSU Texas City, TX. So I've been around a whole lot of M myself. Best of luck to you!

Congrats XMCR! and I'm sorry to hear that srf13.

I feel like from this thread at least, that I'm gonna be surrounded by MST's haha...

I've got about half of the required knowledge down at this point. I'm on #6 of the 11 General Orders and already know the phonetic alphabet and some other things.

As for the physical part, my main concern physically is that I have access to a pull up bar because I know that CG doesn't require them and I like to do between 50-100+ every other day. I'll be miserable if I can't do my pull ups! On the promising side of things, I did see one DEPOT video on youtube where they were doing an obstacle course...I hope we get to do that cuz it looked like a lot of fun...

My DEPOT date is confirmed-- another pre-MST headed for DEPOT!

I should be okay to pass the physical requirements since I've been running and even tested my swim skills. The required knowledge is another story. I'm getting some index cards tonight so I can make flash cards to study.

    See you all soon!!
