I could be wrong but according to the USCG Training Center Cape May website, recruits are suppose to get to Philly Airport by 1600 and then the bus to Cape May leaves from the Airport on 1730 sharp.... double check with your recruiter abj925...because if you get to the airport by 19:30....the bus is long gone. |

I believe it has been said there are 2 buses. One that leaves at 5:30 and another for the late arrivals. Depending upon where someone is coming from they might not be able to get to Philly before the first bus departs. Then if there is bad weather and someone gets delayed... there is always a 2nd bus ready to gather everyone up. |

Hey Magnetik, congrats on making it through buddy! Had to google the chewy bar, lol didn't expect it to be some night snack... anyway, it's encouranging to know that if I do what I'm supposed to do the way I'm supposed to do it, I would be fine. That is exactly what I needed to hear, I don't expect any preferential treatment and I can pass the physical reqs no problem. I am studying the req knowledge as we speak so that should be fine too. Besides these, is there anything else that seemed to get people in trouble? Do you know where the female sleeping quarters are at? Oh and do you have any down time at all or do we just go all the way from 0530 till 2200?
Thanks a lot, I would greatly appreciate it if you could give me a few pointers. My husband is retired ARMY and I am definitely not about to dissapoint... Congrats again, what's next for you? |

All right, I haven't been here in a while, looks like a lot of us are going to DEPOT March 11 class. Congrats you all! How many of us so far, did anyone keep a count? I only see 3 girls, is that a normal spread? Does anyone know how many in our class all together? See you all soon |

Catalina - yes, I swore in back in January. I did notice that the Cape May website said the bus left sharply at 5:30PM before I read OldGuard's post so I had my recruiter change my tickets. Ill be getting to the airport around 4:00PM. Looking forward to meeting everyone! |

Only two weeks left......not good. Time moves fast when you have a set date for something important. I just started studying the Helmsman. Only two weeks!! I might freak out on the week before the bootcamp... lol I gotta amp up the training I guess. I hope DEPOT is not super crazy like where you do like 500+ push-up a day and stuff.... |

Hey DEPOT you guys will be fine just like I said before!! Remember to do what you are told and keep your mouth shut! It may seem like forever when you are there but time will fly and will have HUGE respect for the 8 week companies. You will be physically "beat", so don't go there soft. You actions dictate your treatment. Remember that last part because it will help you make it through!

Trust me you don't want to fail your PT test. You will be getting up an hour earlier to go train on any section that you failed and sleep is precious! We had people fail and it seemed miserable. My opinion is that if you know the requirements and have had plenty of time to train why would you show up and fail? The general orders should be studied every day, I used the flashcardlet app for my iphone. The app is free and easy to just look at whenever you have a free moment. You will have lots of other stuff to learn and deal with so don't show up unprepared. Also remember that your company commanders are professionals with a serious dedication the USCG so please don't take any of it personally. You wouldn't want to go through what they have to go through to be where they are! Good luck all and see you on the other side! Also our video on youtube was put together by one of our company commanders who is a great person. You will be his last DEPOT before he retires so be the best one yet and send him proudly into retirement!

Hey Magnetik. Thank you for all of your helpful insight. I hate to throw another question at you since you are probably sick of typing but how much time are we going to be spending in the water? I can pass the basic swim test but I'm not a huge fan of swimming so just seeing what I should mentally prep myself for. I was in the pool earlier today just to make sure I got my side stroke down and it's sloppy as hell but it'll do for the 100 meters. Everything else will be fine. I ran the mile and a half in 9:30 today. I'd like to get it down to 9:00 flat but probably won't get there in only 9 days. Especially since I did the 9:30 on a treadmill and it's much easier to keep pace on a treadmill since you really can't slow down unless you push the button. We'll see what happens. I just hope that no one shows up failing anything like in your class. Remember the motto: Semper Paratus! Thanks again for your insight. |

Time in the pool will be for the test and for the survival suit training. We had a workout session in the pool because of inclement weather. You should get comfortable being in the water, it is is the Coast Guard after all! I wouldn't push your mile time you should pass the run pretty easily.

Magnetik. Can you tell us how of your class did not pass the initial PT test? And was there any one who didn't make it through the training? or did not graduate ?? I'm just curious. |

Magnetik can of course answer as well but I thought I'd chime in because I read a post from someone on a different forum that was dated Jan 30th 2012 (which may have been Magnetik's class) and in that post the person said:
"We were a company of 27 to start, lost one person the first day to being overweight. Lost 3 at the end who couldn't pass their physical fitness requirements".
I tried to post the URL for the link so you could read the entire post but for some reason it wouldn't let me and it's way too long to type out.
As for how the class doesn't pass the PFT...that's pretty easy to figure out. The Helmsman has the requirements. If a person can't meet those requirements then they don't pass. Like I said before, I hope no one shows up prepared to fail. The motto "Semper Paratus" means "Always Ready"...if anyone shows up failing then they are clearly NOT ready.
Only a few more days...can't wait to get this party started!
