Yes, yes, and I have heard reports of yes, they are taking overweight issues seriously. Lots of different workouts out there, find one or two that interest you and go for it while reducing bad calories. If overweight focus more on cardio and only body lifting like push-ups, sit-ups, squats and pull-ups...no weights. Get under and stay under weight...have fun.

On that same note.  I am 6'2" and normally weigh around 225lbs on a regular day.  For MEPS I had to cut weight to make the 214lbs limit and was told by my recruiter that I will have to make it again during Basic but after that I can get taped and do not have to worry about the weight chart again.  Is this true?  I am in shape and probably have less than 8% body fat but I just don't fit into the USCG height and weight chart.

Yes, you will be able to get taped while on active duty, however, that is not something to strive for. Weight regulations are in place and if you do not meet the criteria, you will be discharged. That also counts in muscle mass, you can be as strong as an ox, but if your over your allowable weight and over the max when you are taped, you will eventually be processed for discharge.

When you're on active duty muscle mass is accounted for, which is why they allow you to be taped. I'm 6'2" and over my MAW due to muscle mass. I get taped every six months, I'm under my max body fat so I get to continue to enjoy all the privileges of being in the USCG until I'm ready to retire.

My recruiter told me that at boot they will weigh you but not tape you when you ship and when you get to cape may. No tape at all. If you are above the ma weight, regardless if you have 0% BF, you will be sent home. (Verification requested!)

Grears, What you say is very true, at the same time, I have seen people to "big" be discharged for their muscle.

    Rfail,

Cape May will not tape you for the duration of recruit training. Either you meet the weight standards or you don't.

Browns.. I've never heard of anyone being discharged solely based on muscle mass, but being within body fat standards. There may have been more to the story.
