Okay real Coasties, help me out here...
I'm trying to write a satire of The Night Before Christmas to give my son a laugh while he's in Boot Camp. I know some of the basic "salty" terms like rack and head.....but I need some of the funny or unique ones. For instance, my son recently told me that a former Drill Sargent told him that they referred to the recruits who seems to be doing well as a "s----filled Twinkies"....looked good on the outside, but still full of it on the inside. Anyway, every job has it's insider language, and it would be a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge help if you could pass some of it my way. Many thanks in advance!! |

Here's a few we engineers use.. Engine Room - The Hole Fireman - Bilge Rat Seaman - Deck Ape Person who gets in the Engineer's way - Boatswain's Mate Place we moor up our boats - The Pit Adjustable Wrench - Boatswain's Hammer That should get you started. If I think of anything else I'll post 'em.

Awesome...you're a doll. Thanks. Is there anything like mystery meat or ranger cookies that are a mess staple...or nick name for recruits? |

No,you did brest and gave me some I can use. I just want to make him smile,,ya know,it won't be great literature or anything. I collected and printed off a bunch of CG jokes and I'll stick them in my letters here and there. I figure he and his mates will appreciate a laugh. Really,it was really nice you even bothered to help me with such a silly project. Thank you bunches. |

I've got a pretty good one myself. No Prince Charming but he has my heart so I guess I'm stuck with the old lump! |

Being that I'm only 6 months out of boot camp, I've got a few you can use that he'll definitely get a kick out of. Floor - deck Mop - swab Broom - foxtail Wall - bulkhead Stairway - ladderwell Stairs - ladder To "use" something - utilize Backpack - rucksack Boot - boondockers Tennis shoes - go fasters Upstairs - topside Downstairs - down below Kitchen - scullery Dining room - galley And my favorite....... the term for a drinking fountain or a rumor - scuttlebutt Im sure if you use these terms he will definitely be able to relate and will get a good kick out of it. Hope this helps! |
