Call received this evening. My son's first choice was District 9, so we were thrilled to hear he was assigned to Sector Sault Ste. Marie. We could tell he was excited as well. We have vacationed several times in Mackinac and SSM. It's beautiful country. If anyone has knowledge of this Sector, I would be grateful to read. Thank you. |

J Miller, He will get his 5 days leave time and then whatever the necessary travel time between your home and next duty station. He will schedule movers and all of that. You can absolutely go the same exact day as your hubby. Where are you headed? |

Hello CWO Perez! How were the recruits yesterday? Positive?? I think I misunderstood SR Tushingham. I thought he said Wilmington Beach, NC, but I can't locate that location. So is it Wrightsville Beach, NC? And if so, what can you tell me about it? We are very excited that he got the region he wanted. Plus it's drivable distance from southern PA. Also, about my husbands uniform. You said he can get a uniform at any exchange right? His military ID has expired. Who can purchase this for him? We really want to purchase the uniform as soon as possible. We are 40 minutes from Baltimore and thought we could get one there. What are your thoughts? And thank you, thank you, thank you *moderator edit - corrected the message to the right person. Macie a.k.a. Old Guard |

DELTA family, I'm back from Cape May, Sore, beat up and still wearing black and blues from the obstacle course. But I did finish and I'm proud to say I can still hang with 20 yr olds. Your kids are full of energy, ecxited, and ready to report to their next unit with pride. If any of you think that your child will quit now, think again. They are as motivated as ever and eager to make you proud. Much improved from those looks of shock and awe in week 2. Well they received their orders after lunch Saturday and my co-mentor and I met with them for 4 hours to discuss each and every assignment. Sooooo many questions, but we answered each and every one. No-one was left behind! I'm sure once we left, they thought of more, but their unit sponsors will guide them from here on out. Admin folks will also square them away with orders, reporting dates, household goods shipments, dependent ID cards for those married members, etc, etc. I was happy to hear from some parents this morning who still had questions. PLEASE keep them coming. You are not bothering me by calling and asking about your recruits' unit or geographic area. I love this stuff and like my friend Old Guard 2, I'm eager to help. I also threatened them a little by saying that these orders can still be cancelled in the next 3 weeks if they don't keep their eye on the prize. Human Nature often takes over and I'm sure that most of them went to bed dreaming about their next assignment. But the reality is that boot camp is not over. I asked them to stay focused, motivated, and dedicated to finish. I told them that I speak to you guys in this forum and I promised you that they would graduate on time. They promised not to make a liar out fo me. Sleep well parents, Delta 186 is on course!!! See you guys the night before grad, I'm looking forward to meeting all of you! Tushingham family, I happened to sit next to Jordan last night during dinner. Great Kid! You should be proud. Wrightsville Beach, NC is beautiful. He'll be involved in Search and Rescue/boating safety and law enforcement boardings as most stations do. He'll aslo wash small boats, take out trash, mop floors and paint as most E-3's do. Some days are exciting, some are boring, but that's the Coast Guard. We have to be Semper Paratus (Always ready) for anything. The uniform situation just got complicated without having that ID. Getting into any exchange without one is impossible. Is there someway you can renew the ID before grad? You'll need to go to a military installation that is authorized to issue ID cards. The baltimore exchange would be a good place to go, but please call them first before driving to ensure they have the items that you need. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Good night everyone, Are you ready for some football? |

CWO P, Again, thank you, thank you, thank you! We are extremely proud of Jordan! There aren't words to describe the depth. I will be working on that ID/uniform issue with the Baltimore Exchange. I guess worst case scenario would be for us to meet Jordan (if they earn it) during his off base liberty at the exchange in Cape May the weekend before graduation. That would be an option, right? We live 3.5 hours away. We don't want to impose on his time with his buds but if we have to, we have to. Plus that's a long drive for one day. BUT we NEED to get that uniform! |

Just wanted to thank you again, CWO Perez, for all of your help and for the update on our coasties. I'm sorry we lost each other on our call this morning but wanted to be sure you knew how much it was appreciated. Looking forward to meeting you on the 23rd.

We received our call on Saturday!! Very brief and very formal (thanks for the "heads up" about that). I wasn't concerned about being called "ma'am", as our son has been raised in the South, where that is just considered "normal"....but the "ma'am" I heard from my son that has been through several weeks of boot camp sounded different somehow....so mature, is how I would describe it. I found him in one of the pictures taken of a run (thank you whoever took that picture!), and have spent a lot of "teary-eyed time" this weekend. Can't wait to see him in 19 more days! Our son said that he would be in Miami Beach, FL; and CWO Perez (thank you!) clarified the name of the ship as "USCGC Sitkinak". Also, is the Thursday night Italian buffet and the "meet and greet" the same thing, or two separate events? |

CWO Pererz, I wanted to say "Thank You" for making yourself available for family and friends of D-186. My son went to Navy boot camp last year and would have loved to have this type of communication during that time. I'm not the parent this time, but being able to get little tidbits of information n brings comfort to those who are waiting for our loved ones to be done with the phase of their careers. Your pride and dedication is evident and I so appreciate your service to our country! |

CWO Perez - I, too, would like to thank you for the input into our recruits lives. I means so much to me to know that you were there to answer any questions my son may have had. I had asked this question before - about our other son already in the Coast Guard, stationed in Portsmouth, being able to present our new recruit's certificate at graduation. I have confirmed that our coastie would be very proud to wear his uniform and present at his brother's graduation. What is the next step we should take? Should he just show up early in uniform on the morning of February 24th at the Performing Arts Center? Thank you for any help you can give us. |

Delta Family, It has been my pleasure to assist you throughout this process. As Nicole was going through this process throughout the holidays, I had little "inside" information on how she was doing, so I promised myself to stay in touch with parents when I became a mentor. I am flattered by everyone's kind words, but believe me when I say that the pleasure has been mine. For all family memebrs presenting: Your current recruit must let the company commander know who will be presenting (Dad, brother, etc). Then the presenters arrive at the performing arts center 20 minutes prior to graduation and check in with LT Ed Herbsts. (I will be there also). There will be a check in table where he will confirm your arrival and he will then guide you through the rest of the process. Presenters will sit on stage during the ceremony and will be allowed to step up and hand the grad certificate when the time comes. Look at the camara after presenting please!, the picture of me and Nicole together on stage with her certificate is the first thing I see when I walk into my office every morning. Any other questions, please don't be shy! CWO P |

CPO P, I will be attending the ceremony in uniform. I am active Army National Guard. When SR Wright cals this weekend his Dad will ask whether he wants me to present or not. This ceremony is all about him so I will let it be his choice. Will let you know what he decides next week. His father and I cannot wait to learn more about the Coast Guars. We have had sons attend Armt and Navty Boot Camp and never had a tool like this to keep in touch. Thank you for taking the time to share with all of us! It really allows us to be a part of things. Looking forward to meeting everyone at the spaghetti dinner! . SR Wright's Mother |

Kwright, It is my honor to assist in this forum. I told your kids the first time we met, and followed up again last week with the fact that the CG is a family. My brother joined the Navy and he kicks himself in the butt for not joining our service. The Navy is great don't get me wrong, but with as many people as they have, there is no way they can stay as connected as we do. The Coast Guard is smaller than the NYC Police Dept (little bit of trivia) and we stay connected for years. In some cases, some of us stay connected for an entire career. I am currently stationed with a fellow boot camp member from India comapny 140 (July 1992). That's 20 years later serving with a friend that went through what your own kids are going through right now. How awesome is that?. Thanks for your kinds words and I'm so looking forward to overeating with Spaghetti and meatballs with you on the 23rd. We shoudl really take advantage guys...there is literally about 1-2 restaurants open near the base this time of year. (ghost town). See you in 14 calendar days, CWO P |

CWO, My ex-husband was India-121 (Aug 1985). A couple of years ago, while he was at D17 2 of his boot camp shipmates were in Juneau for a conference. All 3 of them got together and went out on the town like they were on week 7 off base liberty. All 3 were Commanders. That really says a lot aobut India-121 and the fact that some 23 years later they were still just as close as they day they arrived in Cape May. It truly is a family. |

CWO P - I now the answer to this question was listed somewhere, which I can't find right now, so please forgive me for being redundant. Where do we make reservations for the dinner on the 23rd? Hopefully it is not too late! Thanks. |

Hi, Just became a new member on-line. We're not too computer literate here, took us a few weeks to figure it out, along with Derek's girlfriend's assistance. We talked to Derek on Sat. Feb.4, and boy you were right in it was strange hearing the stern dialect of "Yes, Mam; No Mam, No Sir, and Yes Sir". But, we heard from him again on Thurs. Feb. 9 and Sat. Feb. 11, and he sounded his normal self. It was so nice to finally hear his voice, although a bit hoarse. He is really enjoying the company now and is excited about his new report to Boston after graduation. We also enjoyed the pictures. Thanks for keeping the parents in touch. Keep up the good work! |

Never been stationed in Boston, but I've visited and even though I'm a New-Yoka' I do love our rival city. The CG base leads right into town and you are only 75 paces from the best canolis on the planet. Mike's Pastries is the best ever. Be ready to wait in line for 20 minutes, but it's worth it. See you guys on the 23rd...time is ticking fast isn't it? CWO P |

CWO, I was visiting Colin on his ship. They were due to get underway and he had to be aboard on Sunday for fast cruise. I had work to complete so I sat in Mike's Pastries, working on my laptop. It was a rainy, cold March Sunday morning. I went to mass at St Leonard's, an all Italian Mass, it was beautiful. Then over to Mike's... where I sat sipping hot chocolate enjoying cannoli, red velvet cupcake, some other pastry. I thought as long as I sat there, I should continue to sample. I think all told, I was sitting at that corner table for about 4 almost 5 hours doing work on my laptop. Worth every calorie I devoured! That was 2 years ago... I think I am still fighting to lose the last pound gained that day! LOL |
