Purpose: Join the coast guard as an officer (preferably) or an enlistee, specifically in the environmental field.
Background: Currently finishing up a BS in environmental science, and a few years of marketing experience. No prior military exp.
Problem: I've been looking into the direct commission program, specifically as an environmental manager, but there's very little information available on this. The GoCoastGuard website (
http://www.gocoastguard.com/find-yo...-programs) doesn't even contain a section on this specific program (the drop-down menu bar isn't connected to anything!).

I asked a recruiter about this, but I couldn't get much from him either. From what i remember, he said that to become an officer, once I have my bachelors I can apply to OCS OR enlist and work my way up. But either he didn't know about direct commission, or I just wasn't able to articulate my question to him.
So all I know right now is that if "if you're a professional lawyer, aviator, engineer, environmental specialist, a maritime academy graduate or former military officer, you can become an officer in the Coast Guard without attending OCS or boot camp."
..."Environmental Specialist" doesn't seem to be defined anywhere so I don't know how much experience the CG is looking for.
Anyone have any insight as to how this works?
