I am undecied, but I am very courious about MST, ME, and PA. MST has more of a real wolrd conterpart. But I am thinking that this is going to be a career so 20+ years. Therefore I might wnat womething that is fun rather than practical. But right now I am open for any rate and plans may changes and that was one of the drinving froces behind chosing the Coast Guard over the other branches. Also I will be entering in as an E-3 because I will have my BA in Military Stuidies and right now I have an AGS in Outdoor Rec. But I am also hoping to be a DOG with diving and I want to go overseas as much as possible. How about you which rate are you looking at? |

Thats awesome, you'll have a lot of time to find what you like when were non rates. But i'm looking at ME it just seems perfect for me... The more and more I think about it i'm sure i'll be staying longer then i thougth, it seems like i'll make it a career as well. I've been looking into DOG and Boarding Team as well. |

Hi Everyone, my daughter will also leave for bootcamp on Aug 28, two days before she turns 18! We are from AZ. My son completed CG bootcamp in January w/ Bravo 186 and is now stationed in OR on USCG Alert. Looking forward to going through the excitement again & going back to Cape May in October for graduation. The time will pass quickly, at least it did before my son left and before you know it you will be off! |

So we have the following states represented so far for Aug 28th VA AZ IL Wonder where the next future Aug 28th Coastie will be from? I think the official count down from today was 118 days...since you have to report on the prior Sunday. 118 days will go by fast! My daughter is getting really excited! |

Do forget about me I from CO and there might be another girl coming from the same office on this date. I do not know how other offices are doing, but mine here has already meet it quota for the year so this Company might be a small one. Also I here that the numbers are going to be cut even more next year so it is going to get very competitive for slots. My office said they might only have 15 or less for the whole year in 2013. I think we all slipped in under the wire |

I have 2 years of Navy Junior ROTC so I'm pretty set on the helmsman! I think i might just need the chain of command and thats fill in the blank! But I'm good on fitness with 4 years high school swimming but I'll brush up on my running over the summer again! |

Goohoo, sorry I didn't include you..I wasn't sure if your date had been confirmed. Glad you will be shipping on this date. I have heard similar info about fewer openings in the future. Grateful my kids both got in when they did. Been telling my daughter to work on her physical stuff, not sure if she is listening to me or not. My son was in excellent shape, sports all through high school. He said the physical aspect was easy but the mental part very tough. He said it was terrible to see grown men cry & at night you could hear people crying in their racks. He said the girls always bawled their eyes out in chapel on Sunday's. Hoping my daughter can hang tough for the 8 weeks.... Also my son said if you can't meet the PT requirements when you 1st arrive you have to get up a half an hour early for additional practice!

The PT seems really easy, but its all a head game and you just have to keep that in mind. Your daughter will do just fine i'm sure everyone in our company will look after each other |

I am slacking on the PT I have the push-up down and the sit-ups sit and reach is also good, it is just the run I HATE RUNNING for the sake of running. I think here in a month I am going to be hitting it hard waking up early 5am and worout and than for the late month I will wake up 5am NJ time (so like 3am CO time) and workout. I am doing good on the Helmsmen, I have not even looked at the chain of command yet. But it has not been my focus I am still in school for another 2 months graduation on the 7th of July. I am sure you are right dthielmann, we will all look out for each other, we need too! |

by the by, does anyone know about that book from http://prepare4coastguardbootcamp.com/ Undercover CC: An insiders guide to surviving coast guard recruit training. He talks about some stuff that you should know and what goes on in Coast Guard training that you should know or prepare for. For example, the first weekend the CC's plans something special and in the book he talks about it. Does anyone know anything about it or think that is is worth it. I know there is a lot of propaganda around it and what not, but if you have not seen it yet check it out he is on youtube as well and let me know what you all think? |

It's not worth it. It is not officially sanctioned or endorsed by the US Coast Guard either. It is a money making venture, nothing more. Everything you need to know about CG recruit training will be in your helmsman, on www.gocoastguard.com, from your recruiter, and in some cases, from the experiences people share on this site. You should not waste your money on the prepare4coastguardbootcamp nonsense. |

In fact after some more research on the source of the videos, I would highly encourage all future recruits to stay clear of paying for those videos or books. I don't want to elaborate my reasons, but I need you to trust me on this one. |

I saw the site and was thinking the same thing, but i'll take your word for it cooch thanks for the heads up. Goowho you have to get that run down, its going to take time but its going to be worth it in the end. Getting up at CG time is a pretty good idea I think i'll start doing that soon. |

So I just got a little overwhelmed today, I went to buy some stuff for boot and had a hard time finding things: one, unscented is hard to find, two, trying to keep under the limits for the plane is also hard. It looks like I might have to buy once there. Also I watched a video on how to make a military hair bun. So much work is involved, I might be shaving my head. |

Goowho that is funny. I am awaiting my bootcamp date and to be honest... I have already considered shaving my head also. Its really hard thinking we will have time as females to shampoo, condition brush and put the hair up all in the matter of about 2 minutes. I wonder if any females have shaved their head before bootcamp.

I believe the female military hair reg is... The female hair is not allowed to be shorter than the males longest hair is allowed to be. So shaving your head, probably not a great idea. LOL |

goohoo...my daughter is contemplating a haircut too, probably not shaving it though, lol! I need to get her on here so you girls can start getting to know each other. We had to go to a bunch of different stores to find all we needed in the right sizes/ scents when my son left for boot camp but we did manage to get everything. I bought him a bunch of stamps and envelopes/ paper and he hardly used any of it...not much time to write. Do you know if that other girl from your area is going to ship also on the 28th? |

It is good to know that my hair still has to be longer than the males hair. having short hair for boot might be a good idea, but I buzzed my head about two years ago and hated how short it was. I am guessing that during boot we will have time to get hair cuts and other personal things done, ie, shopping for stuff we might need or run out of, so after the 15th time I get yelled at, that might be my cue to get it done than. and getting there I know it will be long enough. Anyhow how is everyone doing on fitness? I am going to do a 5K run in Aug,tha way it give me something to train for. |
