A Non-Rate is an E-2 or E-3 in the USCG who has not attended an "A" school or completed a Striker Program.

if there anything i can do to be rated and don't wait so long time?????

No. You have a mandatory 4 month wait before you can put your name on an "A" school list. After that you wait until you get orders to go to school which can take 6 months to 2 years. Unless you want to go FS.

Have you the grit to stay with a hard job? Never say "I can't." Forget there is such a phrase. Don't be a quitter. In another thread Jinoskull has said he is 31 and going to DEPOT. That might change things up a bit.

Unlike other branches, the CG has a wait after boot camp before sending its members to an A-school. A non-rate is someone paygrade E-2 or E-3 who has not yet attended an A-school for one of the CG's rates. It's kind of a trial period with the goal being to impress your command and get them to recommend you for advancement to petty officer after your probation period (pretty sure it's 6 months, unless the rate you want to go is considered "critical", like FS). Until then, you do the lowest level jobs at the unit. They clean a lot and generally do time as mess cooks on the cutters until they get qualified. Depends on the unit. The average recruit leaves boot camp as either a FN or SN (for E-3) or an FA/SA (E-2). You can go on an A-school list as an E-2, but all the E-3s on the list with you will keep jumping ahead of your name. An FN (Fireman) works in Engineering, usually for the MKs, and a SN (Seaman) works for Deck Department for the BMs. You get a little bit of choice in what you are, but not much. It depends on the unit. You, however, will not be a non-rate because you're going into DEPO company. They will likely send you straight to an A-school after boot camp and you will go to your first unit as a rated petty officer (E-4).
