I know you cannot have blacklisted stuff with you during training. But for things like knives and tobacco. If I have a utility knife (leatherman) can I bring it and turn it in to be held until the end of bootcamp. And also, can I bring a carton of cigarettes with me to be held with my stuff until the end. Or are you not suppose to have that stuff with you at all?

You will not get your stuff until the night before graduation or the day of graduation, can't someone just bring you that stuff at your graduation on Friday? You would be able to actually have it at about the exact same time as if you carried it yourself. Why take anything that will get you a little extra added attention within the first 5 minutes of arriving???? Is it worth it? I can understand a pack of cigarettes, but a carton? That's silly. Also, after 8 weeks without even so much as a whiff of smoke you might not even want it anymore. Why tempt yourself? |

Seeing as how you wouldn't be able to make it on an airplane with a leatherman, I wouldn't bring it unless you want it confiscated by TSA and quite possibly held for questioning, thereby missing your shipdate.
You can buy cigarettes at the exchange after you graduate and before you leave base if you so choose. The CG is very strict about smoking on it's bases, so you won't be lighting up until after you leave anyway. |

FG, he is in NJ, so he won't be flying. Found that out when I said the same thing when asked about bringing and stowing a gun while at boot camp. |

If you bring a knife or a carton of cigarettes to boot camp they are going to be confiscated and thrown away. You're going to CG Boot Camp, not summer camp. If it's not explicitly listed in the Helmsman don't bring it.

I know but I was under the impression there was a place to turn things in to be held that won't get thrown out? |

Civilian clothes, excess or unnecessary items, etc. Unauthorized items will be trashed (i.e. Pens, cologne, weapons, cigarettes, etc.) |

Is there no smoking on CG property at all? or only in certain areas? (I'm guessing the barracks are even non-smoking now?) Also, what about cutters and other vessels? can you smoke on the deck? |

Why wouldn't barracks be smoke free? Not all of us want to live in a place that reeks of smoke, not to mention its a HUGE fire hazard. Very few places allow you to smoke indoors anywhere, CG or not. In fact I've never even seen a rental available that allows smoking indoors. This will answer that question more thoroughly than I could. http://www.uscg.mil/petaluma/e-pme/...3-C-06.pdfAs far as smoking at Cape May, I believe there is ONE smoking area behind the commissary. Since recruits cannot use tobacco, and there are rules about CCs using tobacco, not a lot of lighting up goes on there. There are cutters stationed there, and their shops are behind the commissary, hence the location. |

The barracks are definitely nonsmoking, my shower puts off the smoke detector so iv'e never tried. There are smoking pits/shacks on our base, on our boat we can smoke on the port side because ventilation comes through the stbd side, which is the side we pump poo on too. Lol. A lot of people chew because they don't feel like going outside. You are technically not allowed to chew inside either because its unsanitary, but they do, just don't have any spit bottles out during inspection. My bm2 requires you decorate it too so that people don't have to look at your spit through the bottle. |
