Hello to all, I was trying to obtain my medical records for a broken bone. I was just informed by records from the hospital I went too, that my medical records for my broken bone were destroyed since it happen more than ten years ago, and I do plan on telling my recruiter about this situation. However, is there anything I can possibly do before I notify my recruiter I cannot get those documents? I greatly appreciate the helpful advice.

You will need a statement from the facility on official letterhead that the records were destroyed.

Thank you, I plan on getting that statement today! Will this delay the process to take my physical, since I don't have medical records for that incident?

A medical review will most likely required. It will delay but not a lengthy delay, if everything comes out okay. |

I had this happen to me. I broke both bones in my forearm and had plates put in (still in today.) My records of this were destroyed. Anyway, on the day I went to go down to meet my recruiter to give him all my other medical records, and copies of my HS Diploma, etc, he had me just write on a piece of paper, exactly what happened. How I broke my arm, what type of fracture, pre-op procedures, post-op procedures, recovery, physical therapy, and I was sure to put that my injury and recovery has caused me no limitations in my everyday life, which is true. I was sure not to leave out any detail. That's all it was, all on a piece of blank printer paper and pen. And you know what? It was all accepted, no questions were asked. |

iZak, My son had surgery on his chest for ribs that grew concave in, towards his heart & lungs. He had the surgery at Walter Reed Army Hospital... a place that you would think would keep records! Well when my son went to enlist I sent for the surgery & medical reports. They had been sent to St Louis since they were over 5 years old. OK, I called St Louis. I still had his wrist band from the hospital (it's a mom thing) so I had his patient number, exact dates in the hospital, surgeons name, everything they could possibly need. Sorry, records lost! WHAT! Marvelous! His dad & I both wrote letters documenting exactly what the surgery was, why, when, the outcome... everything was accepted just fine with out confirmation of the surgery. Is it annoying that you aren't able to get the records? Absolutely! It would be so much easier but things happen adn records get destroyed or lost. Every doctor older than Doogie Howser understands that. You'll be fine with a current follow up or a letter detailing the injury. What gets accepted as an injury that doesn't require a DQ, none of us can speculate on. But how to handle missing records, you'll be fine. Best of luck! |
