My recruiter is a big fan of not bringing anything to boot just myself and clothes for the day. I am just wondering if you can buy boxer briefs at boot camp? I am not picky about what type I just cant stand "regular" underwear. I don't want to have a wedgie for 2 months of my life because I didn't pack something |

it may be what your recruiter is a fan of but there is a reason there is a list in the Helmsman. Bring what it says, he can't make you abandon your suitcase. Just make sure it is the appropriate size as a carry on, as no checked luggage is allowed to go. But bring your own boxer briefs. |

The last thing I'd want to worry about while being yelled at by a CC is that *$&^ wedgie I can't pick! |

Well at least your attention would be focused on something else while you were being talked loudly too...as a side bonus it is very hard to laugh with one of those as well, so you would not have to worry about getting talked to more for smiling or laughing at least...:-) Enjoy your Cape May vacation! |

Follow the helmsman, regardless of your recruiter's personal opinion. They didn't waste all that time and money printing the helmsman for nothing. |

You don't get to buy things at the exchange until Saturday or Sunday. So....yeah. Unless you want to wear the same pair of undies for 5 days, bring some! |

I also agree with Florida, do not bring anymore than the helmsman tells you too, your rack space is limited, so the guidelines are there for a reason. |

I, for one, continue to be amazed at the amount of message traffic that underwear generates here. In all my time in the military, that's one subject that just never came up... |

Well you know Wep, when you military types wore togas underwear wasn't as important. Now there are choices! HAHAHAHAHA I'm sorry... but I do agree. I don't remember Jim debating what drawers to take with him. At the time it was tighty whiteys and done. I think I remember at week 7 he was actually wearing skiviies! That was sexy! |

Do you have to wear underwear? (not sure I would choose that route) I have a Marine buddy and throughout his career has never worn underwear or socks... |

Yes, it's required. Not wearing it is just plain nasty. I wouldn't want to be the guy not wearing it when the CC's find out. |

In boot? Absolutely. I don't think it is an option to not wear underwear. I know a former Navy squid... he never wore underwear either. But no socks?? Again in boot camp, not an option. In fleet? Why would you wnat to? I see such incredible foot problems to the point that it would probably get you kicked out for medical reasons. |

I think the socks are actually a required part of your uniform. But uh, yeah the no underwear after boot camp? People do it. I am NOT one of them, nor do I see how they find that comfortable. |

I threw away all of my boot camp undies when I graduated, as did pretty much my whole company. I would expect anyone who did not wear underwear to throw away all of their trousers at the end instead, because that's just friggin disgusting on too many levels. After the first couple of weeks, check out your undies and you'll understand why. And if you don't wear socks, you're in for a giant world of hurt. Not from CC's, but from your feet. Wear your socks, change them a couple times a day, you get so many laundry days you could probably change socks a couple times a day and be good. We had guys who wore the same pair for maybe three days straight and their feet got rancid. |

I got a question, has anyone brought compression shorts instead of briefs? I have a feeling I would be more comfortable knowing that the majority of the time I am working out I hate briefs, but if they don't allow it would someone please tell me? That is for bootcamp. |

As long as they're white, you can wear them. |

Soccer in High School got me addicted to compression shorts. I wear them now every time I work out or work outside in the heat. How much writing is allowed? I already own a few pairs of white Nike compression shorts. It has a grey band around the waist and a grey Nike swoosh at the lower thigh region, rest is white. |

I think that if they (Compression shorts) do not peek out the bottom of the short that any logo should be fine. Most are subdued anyway. |
