    Anyone done it?

Im trying to figure out how this works exactly. I have the packet of information and pretty much understand what I need to do on my end.

The nearest VPC (Vehicle Processing Center) is in Anchorage, does that mean THATS where my truck will end up and need to be picked up? Or will they deliver it to Kodiak? If I have to pick it up in Anchorage, will the CG pay for me to go get it and bring it back to Kodiak?

Also, Ive read that they will only hold a vehicle for 7 days before it goes into storage for a charge $$$$. Im going to a boat and theres a chance I will be underway when my truck arrives. How does that work out?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Yes, your truck will be delivered to Anchorage. It will then go on the ferry and get delivered to Kodiak. As far as picking it up, leave your keys with a land-lover like myself and we will bring it to base for you.

And, I say bypass all this crap and take the ferry the whole way if possible. Scenery is outstanding.

Honestly as long as it gets to Kodiak I'll be happy. I just might to that Amanda, I'll let you know. That would work out great if I end up being underway. Unfortunately I wont know my schedule until I get there but theres nothing I can do bout that...

Im definitely going to drive when I leave in two years. To do it now is just too much wear and tear and I don't have the time.

Yeah, it will get here. But it can take a long time! Everyone I've talked to said 6 to 8 weeks. If you have to stay in the barracks, its not so bad because you can just walk to the boats. If you find out an alternative to getting your vehicle to base, let me know. With the three cutters here, they may very well have worked out a system, but I have no idea what it is. We've always just picked them up from the docks. That how you buy new vehicles too, you have the dealer in Anchorage put them on the ferry!

Wow. I've been gone a long time... They always brought our cars in on SeaLand. When we were waiting for our car SeaLand lost several vehicles and 100 containers over the side in a bad storm! Luckily my car was on the next ship! LOL

Oh goodness!  With that being said, they might still use SeaLand, I don't know. The docks are right next to each other, and people have specifically told me "ferry" but everything here comes in by some sort of boat so could be honest confusion.  Doesn't SeaLand come from Seattle too?  I know that's how my HHGs got here.  Either way Nick's car will get to the island of Kodiak, no need to go to Anchorage.

Although for everyone PCSing out, they do have to take the ferry at least to Anchorage to have their vehicle shipped!  Craziness.

Our car arrived in the winter months... there was no ferry. So that could be the difference too. But again WOW! We shipped our car from right in Kodiak. Went out on SeaLand, too! LOL I'm old, things change all the time. HAHA
