So i see the phrase DEPOT being tossed around alot and I have no idea what it means, what it is, or what it takes to qualify for it. Any insight from the wise people of uscg.org?

It's an acronym for Direct Entry Petty Officer Training; a 3-week version of boot camp for people between the ages of 28 and 39 who have an advanced degree or prior military/law enforcement experience.

Direct Entry Petty Officer Training. It is for Reservists that have experience or a degree that relates to certain ratings in the CG. It is a 3 week version of recruit training.

Specifically for Reservists. And it's not just LE experience. Someone that is a biologist may qualify to come in the Reserves as an MST, etc. The key is that it's for reservists. I've only put one active duty member through it, and he was a Navy EM3 that came into the CG as an EM3. For active, they would have to have been prior service in one of our open ratings (FS, OS).
