Sorry just noticed this, I'm going in as reserves so my recruiter just put me on the list right after I passed the ASVAB. I know a lot of active duty folk enlist as a non rate for a while to get a taste of everything. I'd say just ask your recruiter. Hope this helps

Hey!! My name is Erica Alvarado. I put my last name because you will probably never hear my first name during basic. I ship august 21st also. I am going in as an E3, and I am thinking of doing marine science technology. I am so excited for basic. I am from KY. I am pretty sure I will be the old lady of basic at the ripe old age of 27. Have you been training hard to get ready?

Seeing as today is wednesday I am guessing that makes it official for you. I keep thinking something will happen and I will find out I can't go. I have been trying to get in for a couple of years. Everyone I have ever spoken with says that they loved being in the coast guard. Why are you going to the reserves instead of active?

My recruiter was saying the wait for active was a very long one and I wanted to get in asap rather than wait 2 or 3 years. Buy yup, its official, signed all my papers today, gettin ready to go

Well that is true about the wait I started in 2010. You better start working out since we only have 41 more days....practically 40. Maybe if you like it you can just switch over to active once your in. I am happy that I found this thread. It will be nice to be semi familiar with people in our company before we get there.

Good luck ya'll! Just dont forget what you learn when you get to the fleet. Alot of people forgot their core values and military bearing.

I have been training 6 days a week. Any way I can save myself from as much misery as possible in bootcamp I will. Thats awesome that you get to do a tour. I have no clue where I am going to be stationed so your lucky in that I guess.

Recovery is a big part of fitness. Make sure you are resting enough as well. The last thing you will want to do is injure yourself this close to boot camp. You can still get 6 days per week in by tweaking your schedule. Try working out three days, then rest on the fourth day, and repeat. My routine is usually 4 on/1 off and I switch to 3 on/1 off every once in a while. My routine doesn't work for everyone, but the point is, rest is just as important.
You can meet the standard, or you can set the standard. It's your choice.

That is true. Thanks for the advise. The very last thing I want to do is get injured when i am less than a month away.

Nick have you been to this link yet? http://tracencapemay.uscgnews.com/g...007/117335 It has journal entries from recruits as they go through training. Gives you a little clue on what we are in for. I am praying we don't have a bad company. It will make everything 10 times harder

As an add-on to this - don't forget to take a few days or even a week off from intense workouts now and then. Go for walks or leisurely bike rides instead of runs, for example.

I did see it once but it was on my phone and wasn't loading properly, i'll check it out now tho.

I know, I wonder what our company will be like, size, average age, etc etc.

Hopefully we don't have that one guy that isn't taking anything seriously and ruins it for everyone else.

Agreed. I know lying is a huge issue so hopefully no one has issues with that. I bet the average age will be about 20. Only 25 more days!!!!

My current job uses a 24 hour clock so thats fine, I know most of the terms from the helmsman, the alphabet is giving me a little bit of trouble, but the hardest part will absolutely be the 11 orders.

Hey future Coasties , Make sure to memorize those general orders & chain of command. It is also good to know the rates and ranks!
    GOOD LUCK!

I had to look up the rates the other day because I saw the graduating class had SA SN FA and FN So I figured out the difference between those. Are there alot more than those? I have been studying the ranks for a little while but they aren't memorized yet. Thanks for the advice.

I am not sure how but it seems as if the company after us has figured out what company they are going to be in. I don't think it really matters because even if I knew it wouldn't tell me much. We are at 20 days to!!! I can't believe that we actually are leaving this month.
