All the time. On most of the WPB's, your FS will be your boarding officer. FS's do nearly as much LE as BM's and MK's.
You can meet the standard, or you can set the standard. It's your choice.

Not sure how their billet structure works. I believe most of the WPB jobs are independent FS2's. Should take too long to make second though.

A lot are stationed in galleys on cutters, mostly 225's and higher. There are land based galleys as well, and some stations. Thinking about coming in and changing ratings?

Yeah chief everyone I've ever been stationed with said I should've gone fs. I was always in the galley helping the fs out cooking. Do you think there's a good chance I could come back in as an fs? Is the a bouns after the completion of A school?

The bonus is temporarily suspended right now until the bonus board meets again. If and when it comes back, it will probably be around $5,000-$7,500. You get half (minus taxes) when you graduate boot camp and the other half (minus taxes) when you graduate school.

If that's what you want to do, let me know and we can get started.

If you go to a station as a FS unless its a small one you can get BO or BTM but its on your own time, but boatcrew these days at a station requires alot of training and recert drills that are very hard to keep up to date and current, but no reason why they cant do BTM,BO as long as the PQS is completed. We also love having extra gun carriers at the station but also love good food too lol On a cutter you will do it all

Well, that's certainly interesting! I just graduated from DEPOT and will be going to FS A-School next month. Currently, I've enlisted as a reserve and I'll be drilling at CG Station Cape Disappointment/Motor Lifeboat School.  Anyway, this thread brought up a couple of questions for me:

    1) If, as an FS, you might end up doing boardings, etc, where do you get trained for that? It certainly isn't listed in the A-School curriculum!

    2) I enjoy shooting and I'm actually a pretty good shot despite my infrequent practice. Is it unusual for an FS to get weapons qualifications or possibly go for a ribbon, at least?

You can get your BTM quals signed off at your unit. It's not unusual for any rating to have a gun qual.

You wouldn't be looking at the Open Rate List as a prior MK. The only guaranteed 'A' school is FS.

I would have to see when the upcoming 'A' schools are, and we will still have to run you through the qualification process (ASVAB, MEPS, etc). It could take anywhere from 3 months to a year.
