Hello everybody, I am on the Army IRR and looking to go active duty on the CG. I finished as an E-4 after 2 years and got Honorable Discharge with Code 1 for reentry. I sent my info on the CG website and emailed my local recruiter, how long before I get a response? I have Law Enforcement experience and thats what I want to do in the CG, Maritime Enforcement Specialist. How long does the process usually takes? And do I have to go to bootcamp again? I heard about a Depot program or something like that....

    Thanks.

I believe you will have to be released by the Army from IRR. A response can be anywhere from 12-48 hours or more if the recruiter is on leave or they are in the middle of transferring people and are short handed. Hold tight on that one. If you don't hear back in 48 hours or so, drop another email again. Just please be patient. Recruiters are notoriously understaffed and overworked.

I don't know the specifics on your background and if you would qualify or not for DEPOT, so I'll leave that to our resident recruiters that are more versed on the subject. You will have to take the ASVAB over, MEPS again and you will attend some sort of boot camp. Be it the shortened DEPOT program or the full length 8 weeks. One of our recruiters will be along to help with some answers. Best of luck.

You will have to go through boot camp again, and you will enter as an E-3. The wait for ME school is 2-3 years at the moment, so you will make E-4 again when you graduate A school.
You can meet the standard, or you can set the standard. It's your choice.

Either working as a Seaman or Fireman. Seaman work on the outside of the boats and ships, painting, sanding, etc. Firemen work in the engine room and help maintain the machinery with the engineers.
You can meet the standard, or you can set the standard. It's your choice.

It is decided for you. It all depends on what the needs of the service are at that particular time.
You can meet the standard, or you can set the standard. It's your choice.

Was there a time you had a choice coming out of boot camp? As long ad I have been on this forum the answer has been and remains needs of the service.

You never really had a choice. You could list your preference on the dream sheet in the comments block, but that has since gone away. Even then, you weren't really guaranteed that you would be a SA or FA.  Basically, if you get orders to Station Hickville, and they need a Fireman, you are a Fireman. If they need a Seaman, you are a Seaman. Fairly simple, and probably the most common sense way to handle it.
You can meet the standard, or you can set the standard. It's your choice.
