Hello all, (Sorry...this might be a little long...)

If you've read every single post I've ever written, you know my sister-in-law is in the US Air Force...if you haven't read my posts, well, here's what's up...

My sister-in-law Samantha joined the Air Force back in March 2011, kicked ass in BMT, and completed tech school near the top of her class. Prior to joining, she had dreams of being a career gymnast but joint complications kind of put a squash on that, so after high school she was a bit lost. She sort of fell into the Air Force, I still don't know how or why she decided but one day she just decided to join, and it was the best thing that ever happened to her. She's been in just over a year and is currently Airman 1st Class(A1C).

While in BMT, she began having some minor medical complications and setbacks...luckily for her she never got reverted/rephased/recycled/whatever the AF calls it, but she had to finish most of BMT on a PT waiver, even though prior to shipping she had exceeded all of the PT requirements(mile and a half was somewhere in the 7-8:00 range).

After Basic, off to tech school, with only a few complications, and onto her first base, where things continued to get worse...It has seemed that as soon as we get one issue sorted out, another will arise, and another, control one and another...she hasn't had a clean bill of health since joining, and has been in and out of the hospital, to many different doctors who refer her to specialists who refer her to other specialists and most say there's nothing they can do to help her. Most recently, one doctor is afraid he may have caused permanent damage to her legs during a test for compartments syndrome, and another doctor said she needed to be hospitalized immediately, but he "can't override another doctor" so she was sent back to base for more referrals.

Anyway...long story short, my sister in the strongest young woman I know and has been through a lot over the last year, and has been to the doctor and hospital in the last year more than most 21-year-olds have gone in their life. And as strong as she is, we all know a person can only take so much. She has somehow managed to stay positive in all of this and continues to work at her job when she can barely walk. We get to see her maybe once or twice a year because she's too far to drive down and leave time is limited by supervisors and base command.

The bottom line is she's at a tough spot in life and could use all the encouragement she can get. I come to all of you, as members or family members of military, and ask if you'd be willing to send her a quick note--doesn't have to be anything long-winded, but maybe just some words of encouragement, kind thoughts, prayers, whatever you feel is appropriate, just to remind her she's got more than just her family and friends pulling for her in this hard time and that she's not alone. All she wants is to get better so she can keep serving, she has no desire to leave the military and plans to make this a career as long as they'll hold on to her (Thank God for her amazing TSgt...he has really taken her under his wing and made sure they don't discharge her.)

Among her favorite care package items have been drawings and colorings from kids, so if you have kids it would really brighten her day to get things like that...anyway, if you're able and willing, please shoot me an email: USCG21@yahoo.com  and I will send you her PO Box and information...I appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Clayton

Clayton, I think I can muster up something. I'll send you an email tonight. If there is anyone on this forum that is a cheerleader and inspirational leader, that would be our CaptKyGuy. I'm sure he will participate. God bless all of your family... I'll get with you later, as I'm already at work and avoiding doing what I should be doing. LOL

I know that feeling...at work we all have what we simply call...well, it starts with a P and rhymes with corn. (Can I say that on here?)

So, there's Navy ___ for the guys in the naval reserve, some guys have Ford Mustang ___, or Bronco ____, or Dirtbike ____ .... I apparently have CG ____. Seems the be the only place I have time to catch up on here, since home time is homework time.

Though a funny and totally off-topic story...my wife and I were babysitting and the little boy(he's 2 now) saw the header at the top of the website...he got all excited and started tapping my screen saying "helicopter!!" So I scrolled down and it went away..."Aww..." with a dramatic sad face...scrolled back up and he smiled again, "Helicopter!!!!" .... "Aww..."

    Too much fun...and maybe I shouldn't babysit.

    You guys are awesome!

She posted this picture to her Facebook Monday evening, she received her first surprise batch in the mail from some of my co-workers, dad's co-workers, and friends. If it's not a hassle or too much to ask, keep the letters coming every so often...she still doesn't know the extent of the support she's going to get in the coming months. Thanks!

Clayton can you send me her address too? And let me know if any topics are off limits or sensitive to her. I obviously don't mean I would write anything personal or political [lol] but sometimes we may hit a nerve without meaning to...

She may not have gotten it yet...but who knows. This picture was from what she received Monday. I think she stopped posting pictures for a while, which kinda bums me out! But this is a message between me(in blue) and her dad the other day. I haven't heard anything from her directly, so I'm not sure she knows where anything is coming from yet

She did a little post the other night about getting letters from home, and said she has a growing stack on her desk. I haven't heard anything from her other than that lately.

I'll see what I can find out tonight

    Thanks Capt

Thank you again to everyone...we've noticed a huge difference in Samantha lately.

Spoke to her dad(my father-in-law) the other night, he said she has over 100 letters stacked on her desk. She's beginning to figure out where some of them are coming from(her younger sisters school sent out about 100 as well), but I haven't heard anything from her yet so unless you(capt) mentioned anything in your care packs, I think you're still just "the captain."

Latest medical updates...never thought we'd get this happy text message: "Guess what! I don't have cancer!" and realize just how serious everything has been. Her doctors are going back on an earlier diagnosis on some of her leg problems. What she thought were shin splints againt they thought was compartments syndrome, tested for it, damaged her legs even more and now say that she didn't have any signs of compartments, why did we test for it...hmm. But she's taken all that in stride (no pun intended...I need to stop that...) but she has managed to push past the issues she's having with the doctors, as she put it she's "given up" in the way of arguing with them, or really believing anything they say right now. What a mess.

Anyway...that's the latest. A huge thank you again from me, and her, and our whole family. You guys are all amazing...seeing the fellowship and brother/sisterhood and good faith that you all have extended our way has been almost overwhelming. Thank you thank you thank you.

    :')

Agreed...if ever I end up in your neck of the woods (hopefully someday...a friend of mine sings in the Vocal Majority Chorus in Dallas, so it HAS to happen someday...) then I'll look you up.

Also...Samantha's dad would like to meet you too.
