If something should happen, I certainly hope it will not, have your family contact the American Red Cross or the base chaplain. They will help work things out. I'm not exactly sure for a grandparent what the procedure is. I'm very sorry your grandmother has taken a bad turn. My best wishes with you and your family. Just in case, please be sure to say any necessary good byes if you feel she might not be there when you graduate.

Ok if it is a grand parent you will get the news but that will be it. Emergency leave is for immediate family only. While I was in boot camp we had a gentleman that his mother had passed and he told the cc he would be ok didn't need to go. They ended up making him go but his commitment to the company was great and the ensured he wouldn't be pushed back.

Just remember it is the nature of the beast as you might be underway when someone passes or has an emergency. The cg will make every effort to accommodate you but realize that your priorities are different then the cg mission sometimes and you have to learn gone flexible.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother

Thanks Southern. That's what I thought, that it would be immediate family only. I wasn't positive though.

I can't speak for during boot camp, but my husband's father passed suddenly right before he was supposed to ship. His recruiter was extremely supportive, and told him to take all the time he needed. He pushed his ship date back three weeks.

While it won't seem like it at the time, your CCs are people too. Talk to them if need be. We had a couple of people in my company that had similar situations. One left boot camp but rejoined with a later company (he started up in the week he left).

My condolences to you and your family. I know this is extremely difficult for you.
Honor: if you need it defined, you don’t have it.
