If 17 you will need both of your parents consent, if 18 or older no worries. Contact your recruitment office and start the process as it can be a long one. We wish you the best.

Perhaps GeoBurdell will see this thread. His daughter went through the recruitment process as a senior and was able to get a ship date for the summer after her graduation. The sooner you can talk to a recruiter, you should if you want to ship right after graduation because it can take several months or more to get a date.

By the manual, you need a 45 or higher. In reality, recruiters want a 75 or higher.
You can meet the standard, or you can set the standard. It's your choice.

The minimum and what a recruiter will accept are two different animals...do not think minimums, think nailing it and doing great! The last set of acceptable ASVAB numbers going around was 70 to 75, with some talking 80 as their minimum, but there are other variables to that, they also are looking at the whole person concept not just who can score poor or well on the ASVAB. Get some ASVAB books, study up and go in confident that you are prepared to beat the minimum without even trying hard.

    Enjoy!

Their first contact was when she was a junior...here is a link to her timeline

Here is a link to some others timelines...it seems to start on pg 4 for me

Like ebee says...contact your recruiter today if you are serious and want to get the process started. It will probably not be this summer for a shipdate if accepted...more like next summer, but you never know until you look into it.

As a parent who just watched (is watching) the process - What Gears said! What captkyguy said! What ebee said!

Baby Burdell's process with dates http://www.uscg.org/Forum/aft/14686.aspx

I cannot stress the need to start the process sooner rather than later. We put all our eggs in the Coast Guard basket. We did not send in any college applications. It worked out but it didn't have too.

Being a high school student you may want to look at the USCG Academy.
