I am currently in the Army as a 14E and wanted to join the U.S. Coast Guard and wondered what it would take to do a transfer, I am an E-4/SPC and only in my 3rd year of service.

You won't be able to transfer. You have to finish your contract with an RE-1 discharge code, and apply from the ground up. Odds are you'd be coming in as an E-3 if you're selected.

So I would have to take my chances of leaving the army and hopefully be able to get in the coast guard ?

@ Old Guard/Gears - Would he be able to begin the process if he were to get a DD 368 Conditional Release or does your answer stem from the fact that he has yet to reach his military service obligation date? I know guys from my army unit who, after only a few years, were able to transfer to other services. All they had to do was get the DD 368 sign (along with the 4187 signed through his chain of command up to the general who signs the 368), then the recruiter from the other service was able to work with them in joining their service. I know that other officer programs work this way, but that might be because I've passed up my MSO (a long time ago lol).
O be wise, what can I say more? -Jacob

The DD368 only applies to the Reserve components. The OP is active and is obligated to finish their contract.

And DOD services have some processes that allow a transfer of services. With the CG being DHS, it doesn't work that way. You have to get out and apply, there is no transfer.
You can meet the standard, or you can set the standard. It's your choice.

you don't have any options of reenlisting for a different mos or the b.e.a.r. program?
