Is active just as hard to get into as the reserves are now? My recruiter told me I was all set to leave for sometime next year. Then He went active and I have a new recruiter who informed me of the "surgery" that's going on for the USCGR. I have a medical waiver that will expire by April and I'm trying to get in before its expired. I don't want to SOL because my waiver expired it was hard enough to get it in the first place hahah. So now I'm thinking about trying to go active and finishing college when I get back... Not sure. Just need to bounce ideas off other coasties!

I suspect it would depend how far along in the process you are. Has a billet been identified for you already? If so, I'd stay the course, rather than start the process all over again. I'm not a recruiter, but there are several past and current ones on here that can offer more guidance. My $ .02

Waivers are program specific, in other words you need another one for active vice reserves.

"Weak?" Don't like it? Go somewhere else. The Coast Guard can afford to be very selective right now.

I think weak was just a figure of speech. Much like saying "well dang" or "bummer".

Weak is a figure of speech in which it would be meaning dang or shoot. No need to jump the gun and act like i was saying something disrespectful. I was merely asking a question.

Here's a thought, how about using normal English language instead if slang? Something like "well isn't that a shame" or "i didn't know, thanks for the info"? You know what that does? Avoids misnderstandings.

I originally was slated to go reserves and switched to active. It was the best decision I made.

question is did Florida girl need a waiver for reserves that had to be changed to a waiver for active? The waiver sounds more like the obstacle..

Even if she did never compare two people's waivers. It's like apples to oranges, many factors go into waivers, even timing can play a part. I've seen a waiver both approved and denied for the same thing.

I did,and at the time it was easy to get it switched. But like Chief said, things are stricter now.
