Hey everyone!
I've been lurking around these forums the past few months and I've learned so much from here so I figured I'd officially join in on the action. I'd like to introduce myself. Hi, you can call me Rizzo.
I'm turning 22 in September, and was born and raised in Honolulu, HI. I'm an Army brat, both parents having served and I have had the opportunity to travel and live throughout the country because of them. If you're familiar with Hawaii, you know that Oahu is jam packed with military bases and every branch of the military is represented on this little island so after knowing and speaking to members of every branch, I've decided the Coast Guard was for me.
I love the sea and I feel unlike myself away from it. I don't think I could happily live more than 20 minutes away from a large body of water, and most of my hobbies are ocean related. I also like dancing, traveling, linguistics, and cooking.
I started my enlistment process in June and have already gone to MEPS to take my ASVAB in which I scored an 85 on my AFQT and qualified for every rating. I'm waiting to get my physical out of the way. The process seems to have been going a lot faster for me than the average, from what I have seen and it's been exciting and overwhelming. The ratings I'm most interested in as of right now are GM, FS and ET. Ideally, I'd like to be stationed back in Honolulu, however, I do understand the nature of the beast and know what I'm getting myself into and understand I have a good chance of ending somewhere like New England or the Gulf Coast.
I'd like to make some friends and continue learning about the Coast Guard while doing it.
