Hi all,
My name's Andrew, I'm 26/male, currently living in the New York City area and working as a writer.
I have been interested in public service for a long time, and am very strongly considering applying to join the Coast Guard after hearing overwhelmingly positive things about it as a place to make a career.
Been researching for some time now; I was able to visit Sector New York and Air Station Cape Cod over the last few months where I met some Coast Guard officers who showed me the utmost courtesy and further reenforced the good impressions I've been getting of the CG.
Being part of a team, being physically active, and working to help people are aspects of a Coast Guard life that appeal to me. At this point, my main remaining concern is the long separations from my significant other... but we are discussing what my joining the CG would mean for us.
I'm trying to get a move on, since I don't have a surplus of time before I'm too old to enlist. Haven't had luck getting in touch with my local recruiter yet, but I plan to continue making inquiries until I can get a shot!
...sorry that got a bit longer than I intended. Thanks to everyone who provides great info on this message board!
