Does anyone know the current Chain of Command or where it can be found?
Does anyone have any tips on the best way to study the ranks, rates and recognizing the ensigns? The recruiters are really pressing that this is very import to have down prior to boot camp. |

All of that can be googled or found on Wikipedia. The chain of command can be found on the USCG.MIL site. Ranks are pretty easy, the rates aren't too difficult if you can just associate the design with what the rank does. Those can be found on the A School list actually. They are all on the very top of that PDF document. I remember when Colin was about 8 or 9 we were at a mall in NJ. We entered through the food court and there were some Coasties at a table. As we passed them, about 3 tables away, I said "Hi Chief." Colin just looked at me... How did you know he was a Chief. I said I saw the anchor. Now my son can spot a rank at a mile away. LOL It comes pretty easily once you get the hang of it. |

And for the ratings you don't NEED to know the insignia. Just nice to know. You do need to know what the acronyms for the ratings are though. The officer insignia(and enlisted, I just didn't find it as difficult)-collar devices, shoulder boards, sleeve insignia- just takes time to memorize but you'll be glad you learned it before you go. |

By the time boot camp starts that list could change. I wouldn't carve it cement. |

Is it true that you will be asked to describe what the collar devices, shoulder boards and sleeve insignia look like? If so can you give a sample? |

as of right now, do you have to say the whole entire persons name during boot camp? for example, is the proper way to say the commandant admiral zukunft or is it admiral paul zukunft or even paul f. zukunft? |
